Maybe I’m just stingy now. But at $69.99 new, this play time to value ratio doesn’t look all that appetizing for what looks to be a Nier knockoff.

I’m confused. A 30-50 hour experience is slap bang in the middle of “normal for 2024”, and generally more hours than would be normal in previous years.

Honestly I came in here thinking that was a little long and I’d like it to be shorter so your comment is surprising to me.

Ah see, I’m only considering the base rate of 25 hours. I’d want to see what that side content looks like before I consider it being worth that extra time. For all I know, it could be a grind fest with little pay off.

But yeah. My standards for game length are a bit on the higher side to most, I think. But it’s not like I don’t play games with shorter run times. It’s just usually not for full price, and I that’s doubly so if It’s from a studio I’m unfamiliar with.

But this can vary depending on how fun the game actually is. Replayability helps to increase that price to gameplay ratio in my eyes.

What makes it a Nier knockoff?

That it’s a hack n slash with a sexy girl? Wouldn’t Nier be a Bayonetta knockoff, then?

Or if you ignore the sexy girl, a DMC knockoff?

Yeah, that’s pretty much why I thought it was a Nier knockoff. It looks to be a hack and slash with a sexy girl and a little floating robot following behind her.

And you’re not wrong about that being a knock off of Bayonetta and DMC.

The word knockoff inherently comes with the meaning of something being made with less effort, with lower quality results.

A well made imitation of the good stuff, means we get to enjoy more of the stuff. Calling something a knockoff is only warranted when the copy is bad, and not worth indulging.

And we can’t know until it’s available to play.

I remember the discourse before Automata actually came out, and how people saw 2B and thought the game couldn’t possibly have merit beyond being horny.

But look at its cult status, today.
