Probably one of the more annoying things to come out of COVID is that all of a sudden every governor in the country realized they have this big red button called the “National Guard” that when pressed gives you cheap labor. Most Guardsmen aren’t military police and aren’t trained to fight crime. Those that are MPs are probably civilian police already and just change uniforms. State Active Duty orders don’t pay as much as Federal Active Duty orders so you sometimes are forcing people to leave their high paying jobs to go do something they don’t want to do while getting shafted in the bank account.

Jesus fuckin Christ. I can tell you: those cops and apparently the fuckin national guard?! don’t do shit but cost obscene amounts of money. Now expanded bag checks and they’re talking about metal detectors? At what fucking point will these goddamn thumb heads take those obscene amounts of money and put it toward addressing the root causes of crime instead of slapping the band aid of more cops and guns on everything?

    SOCIAL PROGRAMS. OUTREACH. MENTAL HEALTHCARE.

    Bag checks won’t solve shit.

Also, did they ever think that maybe the problem is the reporting? Like…three incidents sparked this massive overreaction. The NYC stations loooove a good subway violence story. In reality, it’s no different than crime elsewhere in the city. Broken windows policing ruins way more lives, but it doesn’t get reported as a “rash of poor people suffering the crippling blow of navigating the blunt end of the legal system.”

This type of response comes down on fare evaders, teenagers, people of color. It won’t stop a sudden shove onto the train tracks. It will tie a bunch of kids up for hopping turnstiles for the $3 fare and cost the city fucking millions.

This stupid fucking piece of shit concept. Fuckin politicos. All the money they’ve spent on overtime for cops to stand on the platform on their phones they could’ve housed and cared for every single houseless person and put them all in therapy for the rest of their lives. Instead, we’re gonna crack some skulls and show some strong arm. Yeah, that’ll help.

Their presence does reflect a drop in crime. Sure. But what the fuck is the long term solution? The most recent spike came at the end of the obscene overtime for cops on platforms program—so they think this broken idea must be working because WeLl tHErE wAS a dRoP in CriME!

Motherfuckers, if we assigned one cop to follow around every New Yorker 24/7, crime would disappear! But that’s not a solution. It’s a fuckin police state. It’s a life deterrent that happens to also stop crime.

SPEND THE FUCKING MONEY HELPING PEOPLE, NOT FUCKING SURVEILLING US! FOR FUCKS SAKE
