If Im not mistaken Trump says specifically, “if a country has tariffs on us we put tariffs on them, if they remove tariffs on us we remove tariffs on them”.

If project 2025 is to be believed his goal is to get Canada to remove their tariffs, including protectionist policies for things like banks, dairy, and telecoms.

Through that guise is he a free trade purist, and our existing free trade system is an oxymoron?

I think this is how Trump phrases it. In reality almost all countries have tariffs of some kind to protect key industries. Trump’s demands/bullying/tarrif-mania normally amounts to him wanting specific tarrifs removed to benefit the US.

Key industries like dairy, so Canadian citizens get the privilege of paying 24$ for a tiny block of quality cheese.

I doubt the poors health would suffer from eating cheese instead of highly processed junkfood, we may even be able to lower the obesity rate and our healthcare costs.

I’m not very knowledgable on Canadian politics, but agriculture is a sizable part of their GDP[1], seems like a fair enough view to value the jobs and industry it provides over having lower priced dairy?

More importantly, it seems like a choice that’s down to the voters of Canada, and if the USA doesn’t like it, they should negotiate to find something that worksfor both countries, rather than trying to use their economic heft into bullying the world.

Or the US can tariff us instead, destroying our economy to get us to stop with the hubris that we are a self made country and not fully reliant on the US for our standard of living.

If something is really cool, Trump hates it.

If something is garbage, Trump thinks it’s wonderful.

If something mocks Trump, Trump’s brittle ego can’t handle it. He has no emotional capacity to handle criticism. He is stuck with the emotional maturity of a generic 5-year old; maybe 7-year old.

I always go back to that picture of melania staring lustily at Trudeau. I think that was the trigger/catalyst for all of this. Trump is that petty.

" We don’t need their cars. We don’t need their lumber … We don’t need their energy. We don’t need anything.” Fascist colonialist int full display: we don’t need anything you have (false, otherwise you would leave us the fuck alone) so you shouldn’t exist.

      No you don’t.

If the government of the USA falls apart there is still a giant military infrastructure in place.

If you think that they’ll just shut down all those aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines you are terribly mistaken.

The national post is a U.S. owned newspaper that runs in Canada.

Those articles are all geared towards making the U.S. look good. Don’t believe a word of what’s in it. They have an agenda to work towards breaking Canada.
