Just an excuse to charge more for them. Cant think of any useful reason to have a screen on the case when you have your phone with you.

Psiczar@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Should we stop splitting sports by gender and just let everybody compete together?18·10 months agoNo, because the women would be at an unfair physical disadvantage in most sports.
I watched the speed rock climbing (sorry, don’t know the official name) during the Olympics. The fastest woman was amazing, she flew up the wall in about 6.75 seconds, and beat her nearest competitor by over a second to win the gold. The fastest man was nearly 2 seconds faster again with his competitors not far behind. If the women competed with the men, the female gold medal winner wouldn’t even be on the podium.

You’re kidding right? The company made $89.5 billion revenue in the quarter to September 2023. If they’re on the decline it will probably take a few hundred years to show.
They could lose billions behind the couch each year and it would be a rounding error on their bottom line.
Psiczar@aussie.zoneto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do US teachers have to ask parents to bring basic school supplies?14·1 year agoIn Australia, for a public school student, the school provides a list of pencils, pens, glue etc the child will need for the year. You can choose to buy it from wherever but there are school suppliers that will provide everything in a pack for a fee and deliver it to your door.
There is no expectation that the teacher would pay for anything out of their pocket.

I can also watch Youtube without getting third-party ads during or in-between videos. I assume given this is not BS, the ads are not being served from the same domain as the video.

Psiczar@aussie.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•This Windows tool makes it super easy to debloat and cut down ads on your Android TVEnglish22·1 year agoBeen there done that. I prefer the Nvidia Shield, easier interface to navigate with a remote, I don’t have to login first, it rarely needs an update, no noisy fans, I don’t need to keep a physical keyboard connected to it, it’s way cheaper, I don’t need to mess around with codecs, and there aren’t a lot of unnecessary services and background applications hogging memory and cpu resources.
I get that most of this can be fixed or worked around on a htpc, but that’s effort I don’t have to spend on a Shield.

Psiczar@aussie.zoneto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you cope with the state of the world today?152·1 year agoI’m 51, I grew up with media fear mongering of the Cold War, the hole in the ozone layer and AIDS. I don’t think there has ever been a period in my life where there hasn’t been a threat in some form or another, and I sleep like a baby. We aren’t going backwards, it’s just another day at the office.
If you find yourself worrying about events on the other side of the world then you need to switch off the news and focus on what you can control in your own life. Sure, WW3 could be around the corner, Covid 2 Electric Boogaloo could be more lethal or the icebergs could melt, but we can’t do a goddamn thing about it, so what is worrying going to accomplish?
Worry about paying the mortgage, making sure your family are fed, and stay safe.
