Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What well known maxims/rules are over exaggerated, but generally still true?
2·6 months agoThis is why we have a tech bro problem in the US (and a VC bro problem, which fuels the other one).
Just like with US politics, I think (hope) this was a wake up call that alternatives are needed and that maybe so much heavy use of one platform controlled by one nutbag CEO isn’t a good thing. It has been a pretty good platform overall (has its warts, but is very flexible, has a huge developer community, and actively developed/maintained), but the drama over the past year has been the nail in the coffin for me. It’s not something I’m ever going to recommend to my superiors or potential clients as a solid, long term solution to content management.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Are women like this ? Egoistic over men ?
82·6 months agoTrue, but I enjoyed the other content that was in this community and didn’t add it to see a nonstop flood of Archie comics. To each their own, I guess. Maybe that’s what this community wants, which is fine (just not for me).

Paraglider pilot here. A paraglider would be literally the worst way to invade/attack/terrorist-whatever any target. You need the right wind conditions to launch (or you have to have someone tow you up, but that only gets you so high); if there are no thermals, you can’t travel any kind of distance (unless your target is on a coastal ridge with onshore wind); you pretty much have to “attack” during the day (for above reasons); you move incredibly slowly (trim speed for your average wing is around 25-3mph); and you need both hands to operate the controls (I guess you could have a tandem passenger to work the weapons or whatever, but then you’re 2 people for every one weapon you have). Paramotors (paraglider plus big ass fan) makes all of this even less ideal, since you’re still very slow moving, and you’re loud.
In conclusion, this lady is a nutcase and badly needs a hobby.

For real - I didn’t know what to make of such a completely false statement.
What you need is a rain out.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If someone gave you 5 billion dollars to improve the world in any way you see fit, what would you do?
10·7 months agoIn the US, so free health insurance for those making under 100k for 6 months (or likely less - whenever the money runs out). Maybe that would give enough people a taste of universal healthcare that they would start voting for policies that get us closer to that.

I don’t work for them, but I’d recommend Jump Desktop for that. Works very well and has been out for quite some time.
Have any links on getting one set up (the node with solar)? I have a use case for a mountain top with poor cellular signal but excellent line of sight to a very large area.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Rockstar games are not very fun to playEnglish
1·7 months agoWith all of the great things I had heard about it, I was looking forward to playing it. Once I paid for it during a sale (same story as yours), I played for about an hour and felt like the game was all cut scenes and no game play. Plus, the gameplay part of it wasn’t great (control/motion/action felt really sluggish and sloppy). I got a refund straight away.

Hudson Hawk gets a 5.7, which I think is criminal.
