Recycling and blaming everyone for their “carbon footprint” managed to block systemic change for decades.
We found out recycling was bullshit recently. We found out that reducing your “carbon footprint” by being cold in the winter was bullshit many years ago.
It’s all bullshit. It always has been. Oil company billionaires decided they wanted to make more money, and that killing the planet’s ability to keep the rest of us alive is worth sacrificing.
And the oil companies owned the politicians in charge. They still do. As do the insurance companies, the pharmaceutical companies, the banks, etc. The game was rigged from the start.
I remember when my city was doing single stream recycling and thinking “there is no way anyone is sorting this shit, it is totally going into the dump.” And that is from simmering who used to ride the back of a recycling truck and emptying sorted bins into compartments on the truck.
hot take but:
even though that plastic isn’t usually recycled, it’s still good that it’s sorted from other garbage, as future smart-asses will be able to figure out a good use for it…They will burn it to keep warm after the apocalypse 👍
Considering most places, dump it all in the same landfill, not really.
