You mean sails?
sails are old and slow, WindWings are new and sexy!
They probably have AI and Blockchain integrated to take advantage of maritime web 3 serverless infrastructure for cyber synergies.
maritime web 3 serverless infrastructure
Also known as rigging.
The article actually calls them “ rigid sails”
It’s a brand name
Sails are usually fabric, those look like steel or similar, so wings would be not totally wrong.
I wonder how they’ll go when the seas get really rough.
Probably still oil but taking less is a start.
I meant structurally. Do they stay up or do they fold away somehow etc.
They fold away apparently.
So loadint and unloading cargo with cranes will become an instant issue.
More stuff to avoid
Depends how those things work, if they can be folded it wouldn’t be a problem.
Also it seems like they tested it on a tanker.
They can indeed be folded for passing under bridges and for loading/unloading. Also, Cargill just finished a 6-month test of them on two ships, with the expected fuel savings.
