He won’t sit on a couch next to me or by himself. He might hang out with me on my bed but 80% of the time he’s on the floor.

Just like some people are couch people and other people are chair people
Jackson Galaxy Cat Daddy says some cats are tree cats and others are bush dwellers. So if cat prefers the floor I suggest fancy rugs and cat beds and cat scratchers all on the floor.
Get him a cardboard box. He’s sad because there are no cardboard boxes.

Mine refuses to use a cat tree. I always heard cats like to be high up, but not mine. He likes his bed on the floor, and rarely gets on a chair or couch if I’m not there.
