I have had many dogs in my life, all of which I loved, but only one was my best friend (fuck, I’m already crying). He was a very severe looking boy, very large, and very depressed. He was a Doberman and Rottweiler mix and he just never looked happy. Always “mean mugging”, very scary, but the kindest soul.
If ever anyone asked to pet him, I’d say yes and make a show of restraining him by gripping his leash tight. Then, as they pet him, I’d say something like “aww…I guess he likes you”. I’d love to say that I did this for the people but the truth is that it made the people who were brave enough to pet him go out of their way to come and give my boy chest scratchies (his favorite) whenever they saw us.

I miss him. He was the bestest till the very end.
