  • To finish the quote on her CIA relationship, since context is important:

In May 1975, Redstockings, a radical feminist group, published a report that Steinem and others put together on the Vienna Youth Festival and its attendees for the Independent Research Service.[112][113] Redstockings raised the question of whether Steinem had continuing ties with the CIA, which Steinem denied.[114] Steinem defended her relationship to the CIA, saying: “In my experience The Agency was completely different from its image; it was liberal, nonviolent and honorable.”

Honestly I figured the context would clear things up, but the rest of the quote makes her come off as an apologist for an organization known to play as dirty as the KGB, and especially during that era. However just because something is funded by an entity such as the CIA doesn’t always mean that the organization is part of, partner in, or even a willing partner with something like the CIA, same with the KGB or its descendants, espionage operates on leverage, and it all depends on what kind of hold you have over the “asset(s)”.

  • Solter-Hunt thinks that the perturbations caused by the conductive shell could poke holes in Earth’s protective magnetic shield, potentially allowing more harmful cosmic radiation to reach the planet’s surface. An extreme, almost apocalyptic scenario could see the weakened magnetosphere allow solar wind to begin stripping away Earth’s atmosphere as it had done to the atmosphere of Mars billions of years ago. That, however, is certainly not an immediate threat.

Imagine we go extinct because satellite and plasma dust allows our atmosphere to get stripped by solar winds, similar to what it’s like on Mars, that is a wild f’n scenario to consider, life is just so delicate to maintain.

  • Yeah Marty really did us a disservice with making Belfort look so “good”, I mean at least in Goodfellas at least Marty makes Henry Hill look like the coke addicted scumbag he was, Wolf of Wall Street was more like the My Blue Heaven version of Henry Hill’s life.

Now we get every idiot who becomes a stock broker or on r/wallstreetbets or r/superstonk thinking they’re going to he the next Jordan Belfort thanks to The Wolf of Wall Street, and they might not actually be wrong since the SEC and FEC both seem feckless and toothless.

  • To be fair, most of The Wolf of Wall Street really happened, including Jordan Belfort going to prison, however things are way different in the current corrupt politically charged environment.

Also Jordan Belfort managed to get rich again off of his crimes, through his books and Marty Scorcese turning him into one of the worst unironically idolized villains not named Joker or Patrick Bateman.
