  • I live in easy biking distance of some great stores I’d like to visit more often. That is…assuming there was a bikeable road to that destination. Gigantic highways have basically formed a death wall for bikers and pedestrians keeping them out of fun destinations around my area. If you travel across to a particular crossing and wait half an hour, you might be graced with a cross-walk that sometimes works, while 80 cars honk at you to cross more quickly.

Really hope this turns out well. It’d pay for itself, since those highways are money black holes anyway.

I mean, usually the main reason I sell things like this is to make sure it goes to someone that needs it, rather than a landfill or our clutter cabinet. The $9 is sort of just a small benefit, and used to make sure someone actually sort of wants it, as opposed to taking free stuff for hoarding.

There’s an altruistic future I could envision where this software goes towards selling burgers for cheap to lower-income people coming in at odd times, in order to avoid food waste where the burgers get thrown out. Similarly, nice restaurant owners do this the simple way: Low prices for good food, always. But, I definitely don’t trust chains like Wendy’s with this.

This is why I just do not buy any story that’s unfinished.

As sad as it is, no matter how cool Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth looks, I just can’t emotionally bring myself into it knowing it could be another Kingdom Hearts 3 “we don’t know where we’re going” ending. Even my childhood classic Half-Life both couldn’t commit to an ending, and when their writer frustratedly uploaded “fanfiction” of its ending, it basically ended on a Cthulu Mythos style downer.

From now on, I’m only getting into stories if I can see a review that says “It ended very well!” not “I can’t wait to see what happens next.”

  • The biggest fallacy I felt from XCom was putting a miss statistic on everything.

You need to walk to work. You take a step forward. You take a step forward. You take a step forward. (Repeat x 1000) You fail your step forward, fall forwards bending your knee back, and become permanently paralyzed! You’re also still expected at the office.

In an action game, if I miss an enemy with an assault rifle…I just shoot again in the same second.

  • You did kind of cite the actual issue, the one we want to fix, right in your complaint. A well-funded subway/bus infrastructure tends to suit most people’s needs, such that the short trip to take one of these dinky ebikes/e-unicycles to the train station (or, taking a frequent bus on its route) would rarely be so uncomfortable. The key here is that climate-controlling an individualized vehicle is going to be inefficient no matter what.

The environment will always be a potential concern. If you live in a rainy area, but vacuum-seal yourself into your hamster ball before heading to work, you’ll still need an umbrella after depositing your hamster ball into the Ball Collective before going into the office building. From my point of view, it seems like you’re pushing the “problems” into the wrong domain of concern, and also kind of pretending cars solve that issue 100% - which they don’t.

  • The minimum wage really only applies to the lowest-requirement, manual-labor jobs. Ideally, the baseline he’s suggesting would adjust for certain expertise fields, perhaps just around the subject of when they can request immigration visas or outsourcing assistance.

So for instance you need a software engineer, you shouldn’t be able to offer a 70k salary, get no one (because software engineers value their time), and then claim there are no software engineers - you would have to be offering 110k+ before any assistance.

Is it not okay for Bollywood movies to celebrate Mumbai, or for Japanese movies to celebrate unique Japanese culture / condemn Western influences?

I know extremist nationalism is bad, but it’s still okay for artists to love their country. Heck, on its own there’s nothing wrong with the US Army sponsoring movies. Ideally, the world would have enough critical thinkers that any completely braindead national propaganda would be ignored.
