…there are cities in northern europe where it’s freezing half the year and people still go by bike. Below 10 isn’t even particularly cold. And as much as I die in those temps above 25 also isn’t all that hot. Dangerous temps are still quite a bit above that.

You have an argument at below -10 or above 30 (latter depending on humidity) maybe

  • I am heavily questioning the life of a confined cat being better than the life of a cat that is free to go where it wants. The moment you have 2 cats that get along it’s unlikely to be a bad life, but you have no way of telling how another being unable to communicate complex thoughts to you considers their quality of life to be.

If people did this I’d just go back to muting calls too, at least from those not respecting it… I’ve clearly established to use calls only if it’s important, and if I miss it I will call back asap. Honestly I think the only way you can get them to stop is by ignoring them.

  • From what the link says it doesn’t seem that hard if your cat happens to like some brand of vegan cat food you can get, since those seem to be generally nutritionally ok (also going off the study the other comment replying to me linked). I would hope that most people that can’t find a brand of vegan cat food their cat likes would just decide to not bother, or actually put in the full effort.

At that point the main scary thing is that if you only feed your cat one brand of food their entire life, they can sometimes get so used to it they refuse to eat anything else. But plenty of people run into that without going vegan, so eh. Overall it doesn’t seem to be an issue provided you’re not an idiot about it, which in this case I would actually guess most people aren’t.

  • Yeah that study is pretty convincing, especially along with the other commenter providing a link claiming that the parts of a cats diet that usually require meat can be quite easily synthesized from vegan sources. That’s good to know. (Minor caveat of the study would be considering cats that go outdoors as being on a vegan diet when they almost certainly eat wild animals, but it doesn’t seem results were inconsistent between cats that go outside vs. cats that don’t, or maybe the full study even mentions it).

Also fwiw I wouldn’t trust the first link on its own bc what companies claim and what they actually do doesn’t always line up, but when there’s multiple studies backing it it has much more credibility.

    But yea you’ve convinced me

  • Yes, but I am questioning whether such a thing is being produced and actually equivalent. The thread further down cites for example synthetic taurine to be of inferior nutritional value to natural taurine.

This isn’t something I know a lot about, and it’s probably possible to produce vegan cat food with sufficient nutrition somehow, but there’s still a burden of proof that such a thing is actually on the market and shown to not be worse for cats.

They were fighting, you can tell just from their body language at the start. Sink cat surrendered. Then sink cat got wet and seemed to have decided that surrendering is not as important as not being blasted by water. I’m guessing that then sink cat got hit for getting back up before being permitted.

  • I can agree with the consecutive spending one, that seems like something that shouldn’t be allowed, but log in bonuses? Sure it’s an obvious way of getting people to keep playing your game by at least getting them to log in, but it’s functionally no different from daily quests in that regard. Wow, now your log in bonus is instead a daily quest to do something extremely trivial that takes 10 seconds. And if lawmakers start wanting to forbid the concept of daily quests then I would like them to get the fuck away from my hobby.

First time spending bonuses kinda w/e, it is a pretty manipulative thing but it’s so easy to work around too, just put in a one time purchasable thing that gives better value.

Makes sense though since the article said it’s more about the scare of more such regulation coming than necessarily the specific proposal.

  • Yeah, I get it for effectively 32€ through my employer due to the payment being pre-tax and a slight discount on top. Sucks that public transport is so poor for you, I only use it when it’s really cold but going by bus takes maybe 5 minutes longer than cycling for me, and I’d guess maybe 10 minutes longer than if I had a car and used that.

For me the ticket is worth it just for the occasional regional train, though. Visiting family for christmas over 2 days already pays for it for an entire month, since the train ticket itself would be 20€ one way.

  • The article says that 90% of 39 million euros in public transport revenue came from locals, so the cost should be around 35 million, perhaps with some savings on staff or infrastructure since fewer people have to buy tickets (as well as possibly less road maintenance if fewer people use cars as a result). And the city is financing it through a new tax on companies with more than 11 employees.

It’s not a world ending amount of money, so I don’t see why it shouldn’t be viable. Germany’s 49€-ticket, while currently having some financing trouble, is similar too in that it is extremely cheap, and is nationwide, and it happened in a nation with an extremely strong car lobby.

It’s not free, but it should be possible anywhere with enough political will.
