Seriously. Don’t cover your eyes and pretend you can’t see why the government treats US companies different than companies that are directly in the hands of adversaries. They might not care if Meta uses it to profit off of us, but they certainly do care if China will use it to achieve an advantage over us, militarily or otherwise.

This article mentions 330 vehicles and 13 containers. By US military terms, that is absolutely nothing. Nothing compared to the equipment we keep stored and maintained in other locations. I feel like the article makes this seem more significant than it is. This is not even a drop in the bucket, let alone enough to call stockpiling as the article does.
Do people really put that much thought into pet names? I’ve always thought it should be something that comes about organically, not something forced.
I like the idea of a small truck, but these don’t really cut it for anything but farm and backroad use. They are just too underpowered; we’re talking an engine the size of a motorcycle engine. I’m an American living in Japan and 90% of the traffic issues are caused by these and the similarly spec’d passenger vehicles. They are good for the utilitarian use that they were designed for, but are not capable commuter vehicles. These are not the solution for weening people off of the oversized trucks in America.
Side note: One of the comments on this video led me to look into CAFE regulations. Basically, the reason manufacturers in America don’t offer S-10 or other small trucks anymore is because the EPA requirements are more lenient the larger the vehicle is. So instead of the regulations incentivising efficient, small vehicles as intended, manufacturers ditched the small trucks all together and went with larger, less efficient trucks. It’s completely normal for stores to keep cooked, deli style chicken on non-refrigerated shelves all day. I don’t trust it.
They have more drink vending machines than you’ll believe, with a huge variety ofcold and hot drinks and even soup, but essentially no food vending machines.
I often see buildings in Japan that have a manual sliding door followed by either a push button or proximity automatic door. If I am going to have to open one door myself, I might as well open both. If one is automatic, the other might as well be too.

Sure the R1s are large, but R2 and R3 are much more reasonably sized and are planned to be lower priced. It seems that these new EV companies like to go with fewer of their higher end cars in the beginning to fund the production of the larger volume, more economic models later.
