Part of the point of the Snowden leaks was that they don’t completely give a shit about those limitations. I’m sure the details vary in various parts of the apparatus, but as I understand it they don’t even really bother with the fig leaf anymore (even as of that pretty long ago time at this point).
Not really… “not guilty” can mean, he didn’t do it, or else he was temporarily insane because he was in pain from his medical condition, or even Ed Snowden’s “yeah I did it and it was illegal but at the end of the day I was right to do it and I think I can convince a jury of that.” Or just the OJ Simpson “let’s talk about something else for a while and change the subject” defense. It could be a lot of things.
But I do get it that that might be their defense and they’re just not saying anything about it because they’re waiting for the trial to lay out anything at all about it.

Sure, that’s fine, and I agree with him on that. I am pointing out the way that “lesser evil” arguments seem to be embraced and warmed and welcomed when some entities are the target, and met with WHAT THE FUCK ANYTHING EVIL IS EVIL I WILL NEVER when some other entities are the target. Just the whole “lesser evil” type of argument coming from unruffled just automatically seemed hilarious to me.
I think that Reddit/Lemmy style communities are incredibly easy to rig in a couple of different ways. If you care, you can work your way into a mod position pretty easily and then start to subtly mold the conversation. Reddit is pretty easy to flood fake votes into. And, of course, anyone can make any unlimited number of accounts and say literally whatever they want to. So, if you want to start an incredibly profitable business, you can just do that all day and sell your services to anyone who wants to spread pro-Israel (or pro whatever) messaging. I think more than a little handful of people have already done this, Reddit is one of the biggest targets in the world for it.

Every so often, something hits me that makes me think I need to get the fuck out of here. Not just because of the political situation (although that is a factor, I think that “stay and fight” is probably the right answer there). But it just seems like overall the culture and the people and the nature of the place is setting itself up for a massive collapse which there is not a lot of way to prevent… even in times of no real external threats, and right now there are some big ones of those looming.
I honestly have no idea why anyone here on a visa would still be here at this point. I get that it’s not easy to uproot your life on a dime, but also, it’s not that easy to go to a modern Gulag with no hope of release or due process, either.

Yeah. Sometimes for high-profile cases, lawyers have a habit of giving press conferences and things, but that’s kind of an exception to the norm and not necessarily a good idea I think.
