I think its probably just down to the balance of accessiblity to start but devotion required to keep playing, in combination with the very intense monitization that gets put into production and marketing. For comparison:
Something like CS is far more accessible, but has a much larger portion of casual players and has Valve’s laissez-faire development/marketing. Valorant is is like CS but even more casual. Dota breeds far more devoted players, but the game is so complex it can’t grow, and again, has neither the high production value nor the marketing because Valve. There are games like Fortnite that can compete in scale, but the nature of the game and the focus on fun content over competitve integrity mean that the tournaments are more marketing events than measures of skill.
Better than early CS:GO levels, but not as good as late, official CS:GO levels. That said, part of that is for performance and functionality sake, given that I wantted to leave the play area as clear as possible.
I made a fairly pretty Counter Strike level.
I think my blocklist is about 1/3 spam, 1/3 hatespeach, blatent disinformation and promoting genocide, and 1/3 untagged nsfw. Its a couple dozen users right now.
On my old account it was hundreds (almost all hate-speech, disinformation, and promoting genocide), but Hexbear has been defederated and I’ve givien up and blocked .ml so I don’t run into much of that anymore.
Depends on the context, and how serious and violent the Nazi. If they’re just an isolated idiot who isn’t politically active and isn’t stupid or thick-headed enough to actually follow through on their claimed beliefs, then violence isn’t really justified. They’re an idiot, but not a threat. The problem is with anymore more dedicated or crazy than that. Past that point, you immediately get to people who want to murder or enslave hundreds of millions. Thats not hyperbolic, that’s literally the goal of Nazi beliefs, and a logical extention of almost every belief that stems out of it or is adjacent to it. In theory, yes, it’d be nice to be able to talk down people like this, or use existing systems of power to force them to places where there isn’t a risk of them trying to murder or enslave people, but unfortunately, when you’re talking about groups who don’t respect human lives, the law, or anyone but their designated, arbitrary in-group, then those aren’t always viable means. This is esspecially true if that person is already in a potition of power. Basically, if someone wants to kill you, you can’t always wait for them to successfully aquire the means to do so before acting. This isn’t hyperbole or metaphor, this is literally what we’re talking about here. The problem is in drawing a line of who is an actual threat, and if there are other means to “disarm” them.
Usually because those responsible for regulating housing are heavily invested in it, and like the fact that high immigration is pushing prices up. In the case of more blatantly malicious governments, it can also be used to encourage divisionism, or to weaken the power of the working class. At best, its just because building housing (esspecially in more extreme climates) is slow and expensive. As usual, most things lead back to corrupt governments and capitalism.
Immigration in excess and esspecially in combination with exploititive or unenforced labour laws and mismanagement of other resources and infrastructure, can decrease wages, and cause shortage of key resources. For example, if there is no new housing being built, but there is very high immigration levels, housing prices will rise, and availability will be limited.
The Dota Internationals are running all week with the finals starting Saturday, and its looking very interesting this year, including an unusually promising NA team.
I think its just down to the lack of users, and esspecially lack of creators. There just isn’t many people who care enough about a subject to write multiple paragraphs on it, nonetheless to an audience of half-a-dozen users, who likely also have an extreme aversion to monitization of said content given Lemmy’s culture. For most users, there isn’t even karma to act as an incentive to post.
This seems really promising. Unfortunately, I expect they’ll still use Steam DRM, but everything I’ve heard so far is immensely promising so who know, maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll skip even that.
Waking up early. Also the harest part of my work - trying to complete complex work while I can barely stay awake.
When its cheap, I sometimes buy on GOG, but its almost always more expensive than Steam in my region, even before accounting for bundles, which is how I buy the majority of my games. It also doesn’t help that most of the games I play aren’t on even GOG, when I do go to look, discoverability isn’t great, and I’ve had some issues with GOG’s support in the past (nothing major, just a pain compared to Steam).
I do like the Idea of GOG, but with developers/publishers generally being uncooperative with publishing off-Steam, and GOG just missing too many features anyway, I can rarely justify it.
Yeah, its not terrible looking, but even ignoring the fact that its spreading into the lawn, I am hoping to plant more productive plants, and the ground-cover is so thick its hard to cut through to get to the ground, nonetheless letting my plants grow through it.
It also doesn’t help that I now know its considered an invasive species in my region (along with 99% of the other stuff that was in the garden when I moved in) so probably a good idea to get rid of it for that reason too.
Just Reddit. Its where basically all the content that matters to me is, as none of those communities have migrated over to Lemmy (or anywhere else, as best as I can tell) so I’m stuck with Reddit as my primary social media.
From my understanding, thats also very much not allowed on the app store, and is something they check for.
A) flashy, loud, snippy content that works on people with no attention span or who are easily amused like kids (and annoys everyone else)
And B) clickbait-type, over-the-top content and games that no one else does - the sorts of things that, even if not high-brow, are still interesting. For example, blowing up a Lambrogini appealing to the action-movie lizard-brain, or a giant game of hide and seek appealing to the sort of person who daydreams about how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
Basically, its the peak of broad-appeal, low-brow, high effort/production value media.
Its real. War Thunder just has really elaborate April Fools Day events.
Minecraft with mods?
Base game probably doesn’t have the level of detail you want, but with mods for either specalized detail blocks, or something more generic like Chisel and Bits or Carpenter Blocks, it should be possible to make something close to what you want pretty easily.
An XCom style strategy/tactics game, but trying to find a balance of the original X-Com games’ flexability and the modern XCom’s streamlined polish.
Also, because I have a blank check, add VR support, and take advantage of the 3D positional controllers to to expand on the 3D enviroments. Rather than the simple 2-3 layer ones from the past, use more vertical levels, possibly more focus on units with grappling hooks or flight, or even using a similar format for air/space battles in 3D space.
