I did math on this part of the report:

10,022 reported fatalities 2550 women 4104 children.

Subtract the children, you get 5918 adult fatalities. (10,022 - 4104=5918)

Edit: the “Data on Casualties” is, like I mentioned, slower to update. There’s a date filter–the fatalities listed are from earlier conflicts in the region, or in Israel or the West Bank.

Take a look at this daily brief put out by OCHA (UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs). It’s dated 6 November 2023.

Their “Data on Casualties” tracker is more detailed in its breakdown, but is slower to update (as noted on that page).

Edit: So, of 5918 adult fatalities listed, 2550 (43%) were women. It’s not clear to me at first glance if the remaining 57% are men, or if there are some undetermined folks mixed in.

Are you suggesting that

• that Hamas is importing kids from outside of Gaza into Gaza, or
• There’s parts of Gaza that aren’t an active war zone that Gazan children can be brought from ?

The last elections in Gaza were held in 2006. 70% of people in Gaza are 30 or younger, meaning they would have been 13 or younger during that election. I don’t believe the 2006 election can be held up as proof that the current population of Gaza asked for this government.

TBH, though, my bank lets me opt-out of it. They also let me tie in my savings account, so if I would overdraw my checking account instead they move money from savings and send me a note.

I took it to be them anchoring in their own experiences and trying to use those experiences as a way to help others understand even 1/10 of what the Gazans are going through. Felt like it was coming from a place of support and empathy. I can see your interpretation too, though.

I don’t need a gun, but the pawn shop on my commute has some musical instruments in the window which intrigue me. I’m a serial hobby-starter, and prefer gently used hobby tools over new, because used items have less of an environmental impact than new items.

My mom bought a form antique store/hoarder’s storage building that felt haunted, on account of still having all the stuff inside. It was full of interesting coincidences, like when you’d cut yourself on something you’d find a first aid kit in the next box. Or when my aunt from Ann Arbor came down to visit and we found a set of post cards from Ann Arbor, MI. Also, the painting of a lady hung up above the ceiling via a nail through her chest was a bit creepy.

What I’m saying is that ghosts can be a comforting concept and find you bandages.

I think the person you responded to pointed out the condoms because they believe food-insecure people shouldn’t have sex. Which is silly–you don’t always have a choice in sex (not everyone’s relationships are healthy). And if you’re going to have sex, preventing unwanted pregnancy and disease is the responsible choice.
