On what hardware do you run 9front?
slackware, freebsd, netbsd
I’m running it on my laptop, has skylake i5 ulv with 8 gigs of ddr3 and a tlc micron ssd with slackware linux installed (no docker, manual server config).
Mine is selfhosted as well. I enabled many engines (Google, Bing, DDG, Yahoo, Naver, Qwant, Brave, a few more) and a single search query takes about 8 to 10 seconds. I have pretty fast internet connection, it would be great if I can make it faster lol. I’m using DDG when I need a quick search due to that.
The only con is that its super slow with many engines enabled…
Not sure which ports are required for your usage but maybe cloudflared would work? It works on the free tier as well, you can install cloudflared on your linux/windows server (no BSD support afaik).
Freenom’s domains are pretty unstable, they lost management for .ga domains last year and they often claim others’ free domain when they have high usage.
though if you have unstable network I won’t suggest self hosting fediverse stuff.
Yeah, but I’m wanting to only connect to ‘root DNS’ servers (is that the right term?) instead of servers like NextDNS or Cloudflare. Anyway, my configuration is working now, I should probably document them later…
You’re partially right about self hosting, but it still strips out the user tracking scripts and only provides the pure results, and you can make SearXNG route to Tor…
10 years ago I ran a Debian chroot inside my Android after rooting and that still works, no need to run a KVM (mostly).
Seriously no reason to use it over win10 enterprise iot ltsc 21h2 other than the cpu scheduler in intel 13th gen
IRC is what works for me, but others don’t seem to be, mainly due to inline image previews and easy attachments…
i just have top running through ssh on an xterm window.
