Technically there are plenty enough resources to help, we just don’t adequately distribute them. Jeff bezos has like 4 condos in NYC alone iirc, (or maybe that’s musk) but he definitely also has a mansion with 24 fucking bathrooms.

I’m taking a psychology of aging course that gets into the extreme cultural ageism against older adults, and man, I really can’t begin to explain how much it’s humbled me. We’re reading a book called “Happiness is a Choice You Make” by John Leland that I want to recommend to everyone now.

I do wonder if there’s a generational difference in how we’ve been exposed and take in information - along with younger adults and kids being more negatively impacted by the isolation of COVID - but otherwise, yeah, I was going to comment something similar. Throw in the AIDS crisis, satanic panic, and any number of other issues

The one thing I want to maybe disagree on is how much “better” things are today. In some ways, absolutely. In others, like stagnated wages, it’s not. I’m not too interested in doing a deep dive on it today but I’ll keep it in mind for a potential summer project

Interesting, so who created the fruit of knowledge? Who then decided that we would die and feel pain? Who flooded the earth? Who took up a bet to torture job? And that’s barely scraping the old testament

Meanwhile, who offered food and water to a starving madman in the desert?

  • Can’t cosmetic surgeries can range from things like circumcision, fixing a deviated septum, and something like botox? They’re often not seen as “necessary,” but they can be recommended to improve quality of life. I think this gets conflated because maybe breast implants do drastically improve someone’s quality of life, but doctors (I think) should err on the side of having a patient wait for more permanent procedures. It’s still between the doctor and patient, ultimately, but in cases where a kid can’t consent there can be valid arguments. I don’t think circumcision meets that threshold a majority of the time, and even when it does it can usually wait.
