  • Judges don’t WANT to ruin your life, they mostly want to just have a nice easy day at work, just like the rest of us.

They know they’re going to have to deal with those dingbats over and over, so it’s in their best interest to get them to understand that it’s not going to work, and to get a lawyer. Cause then it’s mostly someone else’s problem getting them to understand how to behave.

You’d increase taxes along with UBI, so most middle class people would end up neutral (or slightly positive). You can’t just dump tons of money into the economy without turning other dials to keep it stable.

A wealth tax would essentially be redirecting money from the top 1% and guarantee a stable monetary floor for everyone.

Probably there’s a dozen other changes, along with bankruptcy protections, interest rates, and anti scam protection would also need to be implemented.

You identified an obvious problem, which has been considered by intelligent UBI advocates that have studied this for a long time.

  • Too bad you weren’t on the jury, because you could have been educated on the situation and have a valid opinion on the subject.

Or you could actually look up real information and find out what exactly McDonald’s was being punished for, and how they exacerbated the situation over and over.

Safety standards are not created with the expectation that everyone else acts perfectly safely, safety standards are designed that people can have accidents and not be maimed due to cost cutting from a giant, multinational corporation. McDonald’s deserves that judgement, the media demonized the victim, and you are perpetuating that myth.

  • There’s plenty of female pitchers these days that beat pro baseball players.

Hitters work their whole lives to beat one very specific type of pitching, it’s literally impossible to react in time to make an actual decision about the pitch.

When a completely different style shows up, they can’t manage at first. It’s likely that things would be different after a season.

That doesn’t take away the fact that she could have been a very successful pitcher given the chance, but striking out a batter in an exhibition isn’t all that special.

  • An electric motor is SIGNIFICANTLY more simple to produce than an entire internal combustion engine. There are far fewer moving parts on an electric car than a gasoline one.

The battery is a significant cost, but not all cars need to have 300 miles of range. It is also possible that once the market is saturated (i.e. - several decades), that recycled battery packs will be cheaper to produce than batteries built from raw materials.

The major reason why electric cars are so expensive right now is because there are far fewer of them, and the ones that are being made have a target market of an upper-middle class household. They’re luxury/status symbols as much as anything else. Secondarily, there isn’t a large used electric car market yet.

There is a large potential for cost reductions. Assuming technology continues to improve, electric cars will drop below the price of gas and diesel for everyday driving. Internal combustion engines will most likely be reduced to specialty vehicles.
