I actually happen to know a lot about computers, and can even build them from raw materials. They are not eternal existences no matter how they’re treated in popular culture, and data retention as hardware/standards evolve is actually a serious concern that is getting a fair bit of attention in research. One of the more interesting avenues being explored is encoding data in DNA, because humans will always have a reason to want to be capable of reading DNA, but that’s still just theory at this point.

You can run a computer program on any computer

Incorrect. Certain programs require certain standards for how the hardware is designed. There are already lots of old programs which can’t be run natively on modern machines, and using software to emulate a compatible environment can impact performance in more ways than just speed.

It doesn’t “wear out.”

The physical components will, and compatible components for older systems keep getting harder to come across. Computers are not immortal entities. Maintenance of older machines will continually become more labour and cost intensive over time.

AI is never going to get worse than it is now

Is that just a wild assumption, or…? One phenomena that has already been witnessed with AI is that it does in fact get worse if it trains upon it’s own output.

I frequent both right and left wing areas of the web to try and keep tabs on what everyone is talking about, and literally the only place I’ve ever seen this sort of anti-cyclist circle jerk is on reddit.

You should read it more carefully. I’m speaking about the motives of those who spread fear porn, not the aptitude of women as a whole.

Well you’re just completely misrepresenting what I’ve said there.

If making people aware of dangerous situations is a good thing, then being aware of how media can be used maliciously is also a good lesson.

You kidding? Fear porn is a solid half of social media, at least.

You can use real scenarios as fear porn by hyper focusing on them, far beyond what’s reasonable, and to the exclusion of everything else.

It’s not something specific about women, but people in general respond poorly to being constantly bombarded with fear porn. the only thing specific to women in this scenario is the flavour of fear porn being peddled. There are abundant examples of other flavours designed to antagonize other demographics throughout the media landscape.

Is it actually intended to protect you, or is it intended to constantly neg you to the point you become a hollow shell of a woman, overly eager to please others out of fear for hypotheticals, no longer capable of recognizing good in others so you’ll settle for the abusive relationships you’ve been conditioned to expect?

Edit: I don’t say this to be flippant, but rather because some people need to understand that there are real problems in this world, and this sort of situation is what can easily result from ignoring those problems for superficial reasons such as you don’t like the person who speaks about them, or the specific choice of words they use.

The current situation started with Occupy speaking out about banking practices, when large corporations failed due to their own greed, and our governments just handed them money to save them from the consequences of their own decisions. That made it abundantly clear the entire economy is rigged against the average person. You can get a rough idea of what’s happening by paying attention to how the corporate media has been whipping people into a frenzy, working relentlessly to demonize certain demographics. It might be harder to see it these days, but the current state of the media is absolutely nothing like it was prior to 2008.

How do those things actually accomplish anything against corporate interests though? One of the issues with corporations is that they have many layers of grunts in public facing places so that the people actually in charge are never even exposed to the public. The fact that people’s minds immediately go to the least effective, most self destructive, methods possible to oppose such systems is a symptom of corporate media controlling the narrative. Occupy represented an actual threat to their control, and that’s exactly why corporations have become intensely interested in divisive social issues ever since.

Are you expecting corporations to tell you about it when they do? They lie blatantly about what happened/is happening and the average person eats it up because the corporate news lied to them about the actual nature of what happened/is happening. We’re currently in the epicentre of probably the largest revolt against corporate control since the dawn of the corporation, and most people think it’s about every emotionally charged issue that exists other than the actual reason.

It’s taking over everything that corporations touch. Despite all their attempts to hide and distract from their problems, they only keep mounting because they refuse to accept the fundamental truth that it is literally impossible to strictly control the entire population the way that their systems are designed to work. Computer technology and the Internet have ironically actually solved our problems, not by controlling what people do, but rather by accelerating the enshitification process to a pace where their bullshit becomes abundantly obvious to everyone.
