People have called me “paranoid” for years for pointing out that this kind of thing was going to happen, and it’s so much worse than I thought it would be but at least I’m vindicated.

Tech companies will literally murder or enslave you if they think it would be good for their bottom line. We know that’s true because tech companies are murdering and enslaving people in the global south because it’s good for their bottom line. Stop giving them money. Stop buying wifi-enabled garbage that spies on you for the police state.

Maybe it’s a good thing that people with entirely too much money are being forced to rock their own crying child instead of having a machine do it. Using robots to soothe your child is a Phillip K. Dick-esque dystopia. Obviously a crying child take a huge mental and physical health toll on everyone in a house, but in a country where poor people are being forced to give birth, maybe the rich people should have to suffer a little bit too.

People usually don’t decide to do things like that for shits and giggles, so let’s try and empathize with them and see if we can find some rational reasons for what they do.

Maybe they can’t afford the rent at an RV park. Maybe the rules there are so restrictive that the RV park is unusable to them. A lot of jurisdictions have restrictions on how long someone can rent space before they get legal protections or require additional insurance, so a lot of short-stay places like hotels and RV parks put a cap of a week or two for a stay.

Have you tried talking to these people? You can learn a lot about why people act the way they do by just asking them. Most people are rational enough that they have reasons for doing the things they do, and they’ll probably be happy to tell you if you’re friendly and treat them like people.

You know what would fix that?

Giving those people a safe and secure place to park their RV that isn’t the highway.

The mental illness is a symptom of the root problem. The inability to cope with the modern world isn’t by itself a mental illness, but it keeps getting called one.

I’ll even take it a step further. I think most of these mental illnesses being attributed to inability to cope with modern society aren’t mental illnesses at all, and are in fact a very healthy reaction to a very unhealthy system. But maybe I’m just crazy.

Housing is a great place to start fixing it though. It doesn’t matter what other issues there might be if there isn’t any housing available to someone.

Sure is interesting how people being unable to cope with the accelerating horrors of the modern age keeps getting called “mental illness”. Turns out you don’t have to care about people who don’t have food, or shelter, or any other basic needs. You can just call them crazy and blame all their issues on “mental illness”.
