While I do agree that some go a bit hard on this it is true that buying the movies, the games, or official merch is directly harmful as the money is used to fund anti-trans lobbies. I don’t think it’s reasonable to expect anyone to stop engaging with fanfiction or other things that doesn’t give Rowling cash, but I do understand why me and other trans people are upset when others cling to harry potter. It’s a sore point for us because we know what she stands for and are keenly aware of the bigotry even within the HP book series, not just Rowlings later statements. We are also aware that many simply do not care. Even if you tell them what the money is being used for people often don’t believe us, or choose to prioritize their indulgence into the fandom over preventing harm. Talking about HP does contribute to the popularity of the franchise and can therefore arguably indirectly hurt us. So I do ask that you have some understanding for why people are upset.

You don’t get the point of the instance. That sports thing is deliberately pushed by the alt right because it gets people riled up, it was literally a non issue until they started bringing it up (and lying about it, making it seem like a bigger issue than it really is). There are not a lot of trans women and we largely don’t compete at a professional level. We have to keep hearing this tired old debate over and over, and so on blåhaj, which is supposed to be a safe space, we simply ban all alt right rhetoric targeting us rather than engage in it.

Do you know how often someone shows up and randomly brings up some unrelated alt right talking point? In an unrelated post? Yeah this is not us being sensitive, this is other people not understanding what it means to be a minority being specifically targeted to create engagement. We can’t all expend all of our energy all of the time to rebuke every single argument. That effort would legitimately be inhuman

Yeah. Before I started using lemmy and matrix more I was on discord a lot, and some of the mods there are rather shitty I have to say. Many even think they are allies despite allowing and defending all sorts of transphobic rhetoric like AGP etc.

Blåhaj has been such a relief in that sense. The only instance I know for sure has my back 100%. No “allies” telling me what is and is not transphobic

They are not socialist in the slightest. That requires the workers to own the means of production, which they do not.

Edit: To expand on this companies are organized the same way as in capitalism because they are capitalist. Workers at the bottom, management in the middle, and rich capitalists at the top.

I described authoritarians. Socialists, communists, and anarchists are not tankies unless they defend authoritarian regimes.

My issue was not primarily the anti war stance, but that in combination with staunchly defending tankies. Tankies are intolerant by their very nature (as in their ideology is intolerant), and so Diva was banned for defending the intolerant and for likely being a tankie herself.

Looking over her comments here I am less sure that she is a tankie, but she for sure thinks being one is okay and is really into defending them. Again, the point of the anti-tankie rules is to not give tankies a platform.

Anyways, like many I consider it solved with the contract of tolerance. You aren’t covered by the contract anymore if you go not tolerating people. Any benefits extended to you by the contract only apply as long as you agree to be tolerant.

We also ban for transphobia or for being a fascist. Is that banning all dissent as well?

The guidelines are specifically called guidelines, not rules. I’m unsure what important steps you feel I skipped. We did not rush mod actions, f.ex. We had a chat about what to do in our mod chat.

We sent a warning, but chose not to tell you about the ban, as we figured you were out for drama.

We explained how you broke the rules and what not to do.

We warned you first, then banned you. We always permaban tankies due to our no tolerance policy.

I replied in the other post, but I did indeed follow the guidelines (I should know, I wrote them!)

I did? We removed comments first, sent warning DMs, and then only banned when they didn’t comply. We have a no tolerance policy for tankies, so skipping some minor steps is in line with the guidelines.
