… This has been a public service announcement. I now return you to your regularly scheduled programming of… I’m guessing… memes, Pr0n, and political posts devoid of context…?
… Is technology the wrong channel for cache-clear messages, are we not reminding to clear cache anymore, or is my tone being misinterpreted…? Truely interested
Well,
- a cache shouldn’t slow down an app. If it’s slowing down an app, it’s using the cache wrong. There shouldn’t be any reason to clear a cache regularly. You should clear a cache when you need to for specific reasons like there is something bad/corrupt in the cache or you temporarily need the space used by the cache.
- this makes your advice seem somewhat trite and uh, I’ll call it “uninformed”
- this leads to your tone being… weird, maybe, in a technology forum?
Don’t dwell on it though. The internet can be harsh and you were well-meaning :)
Huh, when i started in on Lemmy it seemed that emptying overgrown caches was the first step in troubleshooting app woes. Have they gotten to a place where this isn’t the case? Was i misinformed? Thunder seems to be more snappy now that i cleared it.
If it’s an app in early development, then that’s probably a problem with an app.
Which comes back to another issue with your post. You didn’t say what app you were talking about. Cache clearing should not be general advice.
Ahhh. That is good to know. Well, my most down-voted post will at least have taught me something. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I can’t remember the last time I cleared a cache. Ten years ago maybe? Also, I don’t need to be told to clear a cache when I’m not having any problems.
You’re one of the smart ones then. This message is for the rest of us
It reads a little condescending imo
Fair enough. It was meant to be more, "hey everyone, I’m an idiot and thought my app was misbehaving then remembered that i needed to clear the cache. After deleting 3 and a half gigs it’s working very well again. The bit about regularly scheduled programming was probably more projection than anything else. :) Sorry if i came off sounding like a prick, if you heard me say it out loud, it would have been dripping with self depreciation. edit for spelling
I would probably just uninstall the app and switch to something else to be honest.
Must be all the ellipses. Lol
