This is from my last post, many people disagreed with my belief. Since people are able to identify and claim whatever they want to be. I know a now a white women. I do not consider nor identify myself as an African-American woman anymore. I don’t feel comfortable in my skin. I don’t believe this was my right race at birth. So I will now be transitioning and starting to go fund me. Please support, thank you.

I think people need to take a step back from the vitriol and realize the irony in @deadgirlwalking@lemmy.world’s statement about wanting to claim being white when they are black.

At the core, trans men / women identify differently from their gene or cellular biologics; this is fundamentally no different than someone black / white claiming to identify differently from their gene or cellular biologics. If you are OK with one, you must and should be OK with the other…

I think the reason why @deadgirlwalking@lemmy.world is having such difficulty with this ‘showerthought’ is because it hits home for them in a different way.

Don’t think about the centuries of slavery and racism @deadgirlwalking@lemmy.world 's ancestors endured, no… think about the racism that PoCs endure today, yet its relatively less socially divisive for men / women to be something else.

I think delivery was wrong, but there is a powerful message in the discussion of this ‘showerthought’ …

Except that there are biological components that are also part of transgenderism that explain why someone with male physiology expresses female thoughts and feelings or vice versa, or other types of internal gender identity. No such biological explanation exists to support OP’s argument that the same happens for race.

What biological components are those? Please explain what you mean

From ChatGPT: The relationship between genetics and transgender identity is a complex and ongoing area of research. While there have been studies exploring the potential influence of genetic factors on gender identity, it’s important to note that there is no single gene or genetic variant definitively linked to transsexuality.

Research in this area is still evolving, and findings have been mixed. Some studies have suggested potential associations between certain genetic variations and gender identity, but these findings are not universally accepted and often require further replication and validation.

The statement you provided refers to a variant genotype of the CYP17 gene, which is involved in the metabolism of sex hormones. While there may be ongoing research exploring the role of genetics in gender identity, it’s essential to interpret such findings with caution and within the broader context of the complexity of gender identity, which is influenced by a combination of biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors.

            Interesting study and others: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17765230/

Not saying you are wrong, but a few things to note / discuss:

            • The study indicates that CYP17 is a “candidate gene”? It isn’t fully proven…
            • The study indicates the CYP17 gene is valid for FtM but not MtF transitions… which means at best it can only explain half the population of trans right now
            • The study I linked was done with under 2000 people in 2007, and a later study in 2015 was done with under 700 people. When you compare that to the estimated 30-70 million transgender potential people, the study is lacking in my statistical opinion…

Further, have you considered that maybe trans-racialism simply is too new and hasn’t been studied enough?

Are you black? Because within the black community especially when you’re young, you get ridiculed shamed and shunned for being a darker skin. Many in the community want to reach the proximity of whiteness in someway since they were born. I always wanted a lighter skin straight hair, blue eyes. Why can’t I achieve that? Why can’t you just accept it?

You must be ignorant, the amount of times I’ve seen women, especially myself be degraded for the littlest things. I was told pretty but too dark, I was told I’m pretty, but have too much of an ethnic big nose, we get called ghetto for wearing wigs, nails and lashes but when others do it, it’s not a problem. Most Black men don’t even want to date their own race.

No, but this should be talked about if people are able to transition their genders shouldn’t we be able to transition our race?

Im being dead serious, i’ve been degraded shamed and don’t feel like I should be black. So now I’m going to be changing my face. What’s the problem?

      • Claiming to identify as, and even getting support from Lemmy for, a white man will not, however, change how racist and mysogynists treat you; this isn’t going to solve the problem they’re causing.

But most people here are assuming you’re just a troll making fun of trans people; I myself haven’t seen you before, so… benefit of a doubt.

I’m simply stating if they are able to identify and claim themselves any gender they’d like, I can do the same with my race and transition to white. They can support switching genders but not race?
