Housing shouldn’t be seen as an investment.
This isn’t going to stop until the rich are afraid.
In case you’re wondering why fascism is on the rise, it’s seen by the wealthy as a safe way to manage populist rage; get people angry about out- groups and they’ll ignore the rich picking their pockets.
The wealthy don’t think they’re a line in Niemoller’s poem.
The problem is, if they’re afraid they have the resources to do something about it. That much wealth can buy a lot of private armies. It also buys a lot of lobbyists.
It takes more thought and planning then reacting with emotion against them. That feeds their goals just fine.
Emotion and belief is a start. The first step doesn’t need to be to the end of the game, it’s just a first step.
The rich need to fear the masses, until they fear, they will continue to hoard.
It takes cooperation and organization to combat this. It takes emotion and rhetoric to start that.
It takes emotion to make rash decisions based on reactionary feelings.
If you only do things because it feels right instead of what you’ve thought through and understood as a rational course if action… you’re doing the same thing as those who storm capital buildings cause an orange man told them to.
What do you think they’re implying we do here? Why are you calling it a rash decision based on reactionary feelings?
Projection maybe? 🤷♀️
Ok, start killing them then. Make them afraid. Kill their kids and their families. Nothing short of that happening to hundreds of them literally overnight will stop their greed from killing the earth.
I don’t mean to diminish the issue at hand, but I don’t think this community was meant for this type of post. There’s nothing satirical-sounding about this, it’s just more depressing news and not what I joined this community to see. The entire All feed is doom scroll pretty much, we don’t need it bleeding into the few communities not dedicated to it.
If others disagree, feel free to chime in. This community may just not be what I thought it was for.
I strongly agree, this article would be much more appropriate in a normal news community.
It’s like a company town, except it’s the whole country.
Code 50 lines and whaddaya get?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
Saint Peter, don’t you call me 'cause I can’t go
I owe my soul to the private equity group who owns my house.
10/10, I’m singing that at karaoke this weekend.
80% of all apartments in Iceland have gone the same way this year.

And rent has gone up.
It’s around 30-40$ per m2 in Reykjavik.
I.e 2400$ for a crappy 850sq ft.
Wow 80?? That’s awful.
This beatiful country is run by a council of greedy cousins.

Everyone should do a rent strike
I come from the Pacific Northwest in the US and people around here have a pretty utopian vision of the Nordic countries. I’m sorry to hear you’ve got a bunch of greedy fuckers in charge, too. 😔
It’s a global issue, but takes many forms. IMHO Iceland is worst in this aspect in the nordics. I like Denmark the most. Every place I’ve lived has it’s own set of problems.
Well thank you for expanding my understanding a little further.
My pleasure. Got some interesting facts about the pacific northwest?
Sure! Here’s a couple:
Probably not like Iceland as much landscape-wise, but I’ve been told by people from Sweden and Norway that they felt super at home up here. There’s a very large Nordic influence in this region from the early settler days, so the climate and attitude I’ve heard is quite familiar to people visiting.
Here’s another one: the area where I live has some of the best oysters in the world and they get sent as far away as Japan because of how good they are.
Institutions need a place to live, too!
Quick! give them a tax break!
how oniony
Original source of the headline’s claim: Wall Street has purchased hundreds of thousands of single-family homes since the Great Recession. Here’s what that means for rental prices
