The 1989 movie created a wonderful world, but the sequel (Batman Returns) was in some ways a reboot because it changed the tone so much. If you were to cut scenes or elements of the sequel to make it feel more like the original 1989 movie, what changes would you make? I’m working on a fan edit.

My own thoughts are to remove the more fantastical and slapstick elements by cutting down on screen time of Max Schreck and the Penguin (due to the Adam West style gags). I’m thinking of delaying the intro of the Penguin until the ballroom scene between Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle.

What would you do?

I did not like any movies from the series but the first one. I sorta wish they had done an 80’s xmen with grace jones, arnold, and jack nicholson.

The two big changes I’d make would be to make the Christmas light girl not as dumb, and to just get rid of the bit where Alfred scratches the disc when they’re playing Penguin’s ravings at his speech.

The little scratch takes me right out of the movie every time I watch it.

I really liked Batman (1989) but, I think Adam West’s Batman is peak Batman so I wouldn’t change anything about Batman Returns
