Idk, I’ve seen the saves of some girls who casually play Sims and not much if anything else. I’m not saying it’s how they all are, but this tracks. At least with my limited personal experience.

Games are about fantasy, usually power fantasies. I guess some people would rather escape into a better, idealized version of their current life than into one with aliens and shooting or dragons and magic. Sims isn’t really my thing, but hey, different strokes eh?

Can add that as the IT nerd dude friend (I had the master pirate copy for whenever anyone new wanted to play lol) in a group of girls 10ish or so strong: only 1 didn’t play the Sims, and she was eventually talked into it, and my wife’s friend group from the same age was similar, so it tracks decently it seems

I also quite enjoy the Sims even as a “hardcore” gamer that enjoys other escapist fantasies. Sometimes it’s just fun to play in a dollhouse, especially one as absolutely hilarious and ridiculous as the Sims can be

Oh I didn’t meant to sound like I was looking down on those games, this isn’t a “reel gamur” moment or anything. I’m not personally a fan of the genre, but I also don’t really get into RTS or mil-sim FPS games, which some would say is at the other end of the “hardcore” spectrum in some cases.

Sims can be wacky fun for sure. I remember dying laughing reading about a guy who made a spiral of hedges around his house. Every day he when tried to go to work, he would barely make it to the sidewalk by the time the day ended. He would then walk back just in time to get to his bed right before the alarm went off again, making him repeat the process ad infinitum.

Tbh, most of what I have against the Sims itself is because of EA. Not my genre, but also fuck EA. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go play Jedi: Survivor, which was definitely not also published by EA.
