I didn’t know what to expect. There was a healthy showing of people and overall pretty fun.

This is an incredible show of support, and is truly amazing!

We Americans are fighting so many struggles right now, and it’s heartwarming seeing another country that is supporting us, instead of telling us we are the fucking devil. I will always remember who stood beside us during this, and who didn’t.

          Does it?

If the us truly fails, the EU has 20-30 years tops. Imagine a trillion dollar firehose of right-wing propaganda because that’s what the EU will experience.

Well of course it makes more sense for the citizens of a country to protest their government than for outsiders to do it. People sometimes do the latter but former is much more common and when it’s domestic politics being targeted especially then former makes a lot more sense.

At any given moment the vast majority of citizens have no say or input in their government and they disagree with most moves the government makes. Why should it matter which side of a non-existent line they live on?

People do have more at stake and opportunities to affect their local governments than outsiders.

Local politics sure, this is continental politics at min, but realistically hemisphere- to global-politics. The United States is a gun pointed at the planet, Europe, Venezuela, Greenland, global trade, etc.

Theyre currently patting themselves on the back for solving the Gaza genocide for at least a week but…that will end.

    Hear me out.

All these people are going to do jack shit when Trump does what every other dictator does and holds another rigged election in America.

“See the election happened! I won!”

And the media will be silent. And the people will scream from the fringes. And America will have finally fallen.

Downvote all you want. I’ve seen enough to know for this to not happen things need to change now and that’s not happening.

      This is my favorite critique.

You get online to complain that people are taking time to protest, but offer no solutions or alternatives.

Then it usually devolves into either you having no answer, you want someone else to start a revolution while you sit online, or you make a vague statement about 3rd parties (not helpful considering there is no election until late 2026).

I apologize for answering your question a question it is not a cop out I will tell you I don’t have an answer and will argue no one else does.

Do you know what Russians need to do to get out from under the yolk of Putin? This is what is happening in America. Do you see Russia changing any time soon?

It’s scary because what is happening can happen anywhere and trust me when I say as a Canadian we are not immune.

So you’re right with your critique, but what’s currently being done is not the answer. We have real world evidence proving that.

Edit - did forget an important thing. This is in Switzerland NOT America. I’m not saying it’s not happening in America I know it is, but a protest in Switzerland is not going to fix America. If that was the case 30+ million Canadians would have eagerly steered America from the current disaster they are in.

Nowhere in history did a fascist government cede power because the people demanded it. In the case of the USA, our modern rights and luxuries were fought with blood, tears, and death.

Having mass protest is a start, but if thats all we’ll do, then we’re fucked.

It can be even nore basic than that. They just want to feel good about themselves and this is a sure-fire way. In the short-term. Terrible for long-term happiness.

Have you noticed what’s going on with Marjorie Taylor Greene?

There is a small wing of the extreme right wing that is kind of like that “tea party” movement after the last Bush administration that is starting to question whether Trump has their best interests in mind.

If that continues to grow, and I do not believe Marjorie can stop it now that she’s started it, then America really is on a bonafide track to violent uprising. That momentum is why there is urgency over the upcoming open enrollment period, because doubling annualized healthcare costs will activate a LOT of conservatives when they see the whole year’s bill in front of them.

As much as left-wing politics makes people mobilize to march peacefully, it’s usually been the extreme right that has the weapons to take it from protest to open murder in the streets.

I think that administration officials know this, and that is why they are afraid of the protests.

They fear their own supporters if they become disaffected and they know that a bunch of lefties peacefully marching is going to signal permission for one of their own to start shooting(stochastically, statistically, not intentional permission nor official support for violence).

Oligarchs in America have the dangerous desire to enjoy American society using their very mortal fleshy bodies. Unfortunately, that requires enough support of the populace to not get murdered.

MTG isn’t questioning Trump, she’s questioning her 2028 presidential run if she continues to Support MAGA.
