Sorry I assumed the whole GCC rail was called Etihad rail. Must be only in UAE.
But it looks like people will be able to get from the GCC rail to Riyadh. Hopefully the stations are close to one another.
If I had to guess, the Dubai Master Plan from the 60s was probably car driven. They have to break down a lot of structures to create the metro, as well as the New Etihad Rail.
The comment about the app is more to explain the difficulties in using public transport in 50 degrees celsius if you had to wait at a bus stop.
I don’t know many rich people that take the train, so I don’t think it is specifically aimed for them. There is a first class cabin, but it is very small in my opinion.
The train does go through a lot of the richer areas yes. But I think that is mostly to get people to their places of work there.
If you are a solo traveller, the metro is a cheaper alternative to driving.

Nice video. Do you know if there is any interconnecting linking to the Etihad rail from the metro. From the news sources here it is mentioned that connection to Saudi and Oman will be connected with the UAE, but I haven’t seen any more details.
I have only recently gone to Dubai Creek and the traffic in and out of there was really bad. I think they are targeting the highest chance of ridership first. I think the people going towards Sharjah is probably going to be the most numerous.
Personally I am more interested in the parallel line to Al Maktuom Airport, but I guess the ridership will be too little now.

Sorry I stated that incorrectly, 800 meters to a public transport station. The bus picking you up to the stations does stop every few hundred meters at the different bus stops (from the parts that I have seen). There is also an app so you can follow the bus to your pick up spot so you don’t have to burn in the heat waiting during summer and only exit your building once they are close. I haven’t taken the RTA busses, but it works with the same card as the train, but I can’t say how good it is.
Also remember the London underground has more than a hundred years on this Metro system. It doesn’t cover nearly as much. I don’t know how much the RTA busses cover. I have never needed to go to the parts that the Metro doesn’t cover.
Uhm, I stay here and I want the public transport to get better, which it is. Except for my work, I can reach most of my points of interests already without a car.
There is a proper sewer system. I think you are probably referring to the Burj Khalifa’s first 2 months when they had problems connecting it to the sewerage system, but that has already been done. There were other hiccups and needed to have a part of it upgraded, but it was connected to the sewerage system very closely after the opening.
Some of the buildings are inspired by buildings in America, but there are influences from all around the world.
Yes, my entries in the journal app is much less thought out and structured than what I normally do for my diary entries.
I just wonder how easy it will be to find an entry if you want to look back after 1000s of entries. But I guess the app will also still grow with us.
For me this isn’t really a red flag but it is a big omission.

Yes, because the entry is almost already done for you. You just write what you feel about it. No curating tour pictures etc.
The entry isn’t exactly like how I would want it but it isms close and it would have things in there like the location which I always set in my diaro entry and what it choose to be the best pictures.
It also adds suggestions that I normally wouldn’t write about like my walk or jog, but then because it is already compiled I just jot something down quickly.
Yes I really wanted that and import.
But what I saw of it made me use it more than my dedicated journal app that has more features that I want. Now that they updated for the SDK let me see how they are doing over the next couple of weeks.

I normally only counted my own personal costs and those were already quite high for driving vs public transport where it was available. I think if most drivers use an app to count all their personal costs they might already be lenient towards more public transport.
This one though is very abstract and will be very difficult to convince the normal driver. But if you look at that cost per mile, it is much worse than the own personal cost per mile.

Yes, it is very minimal.
I can’t get my workouts in there yet. It is all just put on a stack that can be sorted by time. And you can filter if it has some type of attachments.
You also can’t have different journals for different things as far as I can see.
And yes, this should be an easy port to macOS and iPadOS. Would be nice if you can put in hand written notes.
I also don’t like ad-filled apps, that is why I normally buy my apps.
I have used Diaro before and it was quite good. It could save your entries in iCloud or Dropbox and have apps for almost all platforms. I have also heard good things about Day One.
I played with the app for a bit and I think it is good enough to start with. If you don’t have the baggage of trying to import from a different app I think it should be good to go from the get go.
I would have liked it if it could have shown my memories on a map and I could go look at my entries at a specific place etc. It currently only filters on if things are there. Not on the details of what is inside of those things.
But I think it is a good place to start from regardless. And the ability to share things directly with the journal is quite nice. I have already done it with some of the memories generated with the photos app, so I would assume anything can be shared with it.
I just updated to the Beta and tried it out for about 30 minutes.
The reflections is quite nice because of it’s probing nature. And if you just want to dump in your thoughts it will be good as well and you can add the auto generated memories from photos in there if you want.
But I suspect that the other two apps that you used will have much more functionality than this currently. I used Diaro and it has many features in there that I would still want the journal app to add.
I am tempted to update to test out the journal app.

Apple has the potential of creating a fuller detailing experience, but it probably won’t be there just yet.
Me too, that was the biggest thing I have been waiting for. Well that and some homekit things. I have been trying to get more info about the journal app but nothing more that was in the presentation.
It already has the playstore which was 2 years post gingerbread.
To me it looks like what my SGS3 looked like on ICS or JB. That is definitely touchwiz though.
