That is actually a lot closer to the Icelandic one, except the F sounds more like a V and -röst rhymes with bust.
As an Icelander, the pronounciations of the nordic names in Marvel movies crack me up. Especially Bifrost (which they pronounce “bi-frost” instead of 'bif-rost", and Laufey (pronounced very differently, also a decidedly female name).

Idk, I feel like Lemmy has way more dank memes than Reddit. Also more boomer memes.
I find that whenever I go to metal shows, most people are very kind, polite and free of bigotry. Maybe what you’re describing is a US thing, or maybe it’s just that Metallica is a super mainstream band which attracts more dickheads than your average metal show.
I know metalheads have a history of gatekeeping, and keeping these fascists away from the scene should be priority #1.
I’m Icelandic and I just learned about this now! To be fair I learned fuck all about pre-20th century US history in school and I’ve basically just puzzled it together through movies and references online.
Lol a good friend of mine lives on a homestead. He chops wood, builds things with his own hands and has an apple orchard.
But that’s not his job, he’s a software engineer
Why are you using someone else’s bones and why can I see your bones?!?!
I have to know if this picture already existed or if you just made that because it’s perfect
Not in Norway lol. If you want to meet up at 11:20 you say “ti på halv tolv” meaning "ten minutes before half hour before twelve.
Yeah, it took me a while to wrap my head around it too.
This is classic greenwashing. It’s the smallest possible gesture a soda company can make to show that they “care about the environment” while not making any actual change to be more eco-friendly.
Same thing with those awful paper straws. Are you really asking me to believe that a massive burger chain can neutralize their footprint by giving you a straw that turns soggy in minutes? The straws were never the real problem, but it’s the smallest possible step they can take to seem eco-friendly.
Yeah probably, a surprising amount of Icelandic idioms have Danish/Norwegian counterparts
I love the Norwegian “helt Texas” or “completely Texas”, which means something’s totally crazy. Probably a reference to Westerns.
Icelandic is full of fun idioms:
“He’s totally outside driving” = he’s very incorrect about something, possibly crazy
“It’s hard to grab his horns” = He’s very headstrong and stubborn
“A wave rarely comes alone” = If something bad happens, usually a lot of bad things happen at once
“He hasn’t peed into the salty sea” = he’s young an inexperienced
“He has unclean flour in the corner of the bag” = he’s untrustworthy
“I totally come from the mountains” = I’m out of the loop, unaware of recent developments
The UI of Youtube is actually not bad. What is bad is how the search function has gone to shit, constant promotion of youtube Shorts taking up half the screen, and the algorithm getting steadily worse at recommending videos.
The interface itself is pretty easy to navigate.
Yeah totally. In fact, I’ll be playing a live Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson tribute set next month so I’m thoroughly immersed in that music at the moment
Is your username a Porcupine Tree reference? They’ee one of my favorite bands!
Icelander here, yup definitely Iceland. If the mountains don’t give it away then the woolen sweater and the small horse definitely do.
Hell yeah! Just knowing a handful of chords is enough to impress people at a party 😁 I’m slightly more ambitious than that, but any reason to play an instrument is a good one.
Sometimes I look at pictures of puffins in flight because they look so ridiculous lol
