11 years? Damn, time flies. I waited in line for the 1.0 release and took a week off of work to play it. I really need to give XIV another shot once I’m done with XI.

HorizonXI is free and immensely popular if anyone wants a good look at what old-school MMOs used to be. It requires cooperation and teamwork at every step, and the community is wonderful.
I live in an apartment and just charge it once a week for 30 min while I do my grocery shopping. Ezpz. I’ve been doing this for 3 years and have never had a problem.
I work in IT. My favorite part is focusing on a difficult problem that no one else can solve, and fixing it. My nickname at work is “the tank” because they can point me at any issue and I’ll fix it. I’ll also toss in the paycheck. I had a recruiter tell me 2 years ago that my skill set isn’t even worth $65k and now I’m making more than double that.
My least favorite part is the occasional late nights. Worked a 20 hour shift the other day for a particularly difficult major issue. This happens maybe twice a year. I’m at an age where it takes a toll.
I’ve run into this a few times. If the culture and benefits are good but we can’t level on pay, I let them know that I can’t accept the offer but I refer them to a colleague with less experience for whom the pay would be appropriate. After over a decade in leadership I’ve had many employees, and I’m always looking out for ways they can step up the ladder. We’ve gotta have each other’s back in this job market.
These jobs are all pushing 6 figures tho. Not sure what kind of job would try to push 36k on a professional position.
What? It’s rated to tow 11,000 lbs. An f150 tows 7,400-10,800 in comparison. It’s a stupid vehicle for many reasons but tow capacity is not one of them.
Probably taking the turnpike. There’s a section in Westmoreland County where it randomly drops from 75 mph to 55 mph and catches everyone off guard. There’s also sections of Route 119 that randomly drop from 50 to 25 for no discernable reason, other than catching out-of-towners by surprise and slapping them with a speeding ticket.
I’ve never used Twitter, but I’ve heard that it’s just a porn site nowadays. Is that accurate?
A crosswalk in a 45 mph zone sounds like an accident waiting to happen. I’m not disputing that this woman belongs behind bars, though.
This was a common April Fools prank back in my day. We would put a startup script on a person’s computer that opened their CD drive at random intervals. Drove them nuts!
The 2nd book specifically. I think the movies may have a different plot, but I’ve never seen them.
This is kind of the plot of The Maze Runner
Another method of bypassing the account lockdown still exists. You simply have to enter OOBE\BYPASSNRO in the command prompt during the Windows 11 setup process, which allows you to skip the connection to the Internet and thus also the link to a Microsoft account.
Very slow reply, but do you have a guide for setting this up?
You’ve never bought a house if you think it’s saving “a little bit” of time. We’re talking easily 40 hours of gathering and filing paperwork here. That’s $2,200 of my time. If I buy a house once every 7 years it works out.
In my area it would be something like “Men should go to war”.
You missed the point of my reply. I pointed out that the benefit of H&R block is that they keep the records easily accessible, so when I buy a home I just link the H&R block account to the lender and they pull all of my tax and income history. Saves countless hours of gathering info and filling out paperwork. That’s worth $300/year to me.
Same. It sucks having to pay H&R Block $300/year to file my taxes, but their online records save my ass every time I buy a house. I sincerely hope we see a more robust free file system in my lifetime.
This entire article is quotable, but this one stuck with me: “The analysis, by the International Energy Agency, found that the rising emissions from SUVs in 2023 made up 20% of the global increase in CO2, making the vehicles a major cause of the intensifying climate crisis.”
I used to do this, but Verizon gave me a Flip 5 for $500 less than Samsung was offering and I got a free tablet with it. I needed to switch off of Google Fi anyway because they didn’t have service at my job site.
