  • Yeah but stupid people are plentiful and overly confident that they can spitball a better idea for solving the problem than literal experts with decades of expertise can because “they’re too close to the problem” or “they’re paid off by big [fill in the blank] to gum up any progress” or whatever. They just don’t believe in complicated solutions or complicated problems because most people aren’t doing anything particularly complicated with their lives. Incurious people aren’t interested in any explanations or nuance.

  • This was a huge aspect of the Holocaust: indifference. This was a huge piece of my 9th grade curriculum. Night by Elie Wiesel was one of the first assigned readings that actually left a real impact on me. Elon Musk is not mature enough to comprehend what a bunch of 13-14 year old kids were expected to learn and understand.

That piece of shit would be absolutely nothing without his daddy’s exploitation emerald mine money, and the world would have been a better place without him. He’s less than worthless, and I look forward to a specific headline about him, hopefully earlier than we got with Kissinger.

Glad my wife and I aren’t the only ones. It’s frustrating to explain why proposed solutions won’t work while already worked up over stressful bullshit. Sometimes there just aren’t real solutions. Sometimes you just need to open a pressure relief valve for a minute so you can have a little reset and be better equipped to tackle the mountain of bullshit.

Dope! I appreciate you taking the time! So it sounds like a slightly less bloated version of 10 that gets more support, but it may not be exactly legal and breezy to obtain for my personal home use.

With the possible exception of finding drivers for a device or two, it sounds like I’ll be better off just pivoting to a Linux distro mid 2025. I have been happy with SteamOS on my docked steam deck with m+kb and controller, so I’m sure I won’t be missing much by picking a popular distro that I can find troubleshooting guidance for when I hit inevitable snags.

A few questions since you seem to know much more about this than I can probably even find from searching:

    • What is “IoT”? What is “LTSC”?
    • Other than update support, how is this different from my existing home laptop’s Windows 10?
    • Is this free? Will there be obnoxious limitations or reminders to pay to activate?
    • Why should I as a medium skill home computer user without work needs opt for this over Mint, Ubuntu, Nobara, Arch, or whatever other distro somebody would insist I use? I don’t need Office.
