Opt out of as much of their levers of power as you can. Deny them your eyes and your money. Use your eyes to look around you and see where you can push counter propaganda in your local community. Use your money to help the people you are in community with. The christo-fascists use money to “help” the homeless with soup kitchens that force people to renounce what they know to be true before being served. Mutual aid is not just about harm reduction, it’s about freeing minds. Serving someone food is an act of liberation. It’s an act of a true and powerful love that’s been written about by theorists and philosophers for millennia. It’s even at the core of who Jesus was at his core, it’s just the christo-fascists misinterpret which group of people in revelations they are

  • Personally for me its about the double standard. When we perform small scale “theft” to experience things we’d be willing to pay for if we could afford it and the money funded the artists, they throw the book at us. When they build a giant machine that takes all of our work and turns it into an automated record scratcher that they will profit off of and replace our creative jobs with, that’s just good business. I don’t think it’s okay that they get to do things like implement DRM because IP theft is so terrible, but then when they do it systemically and against the specific licensing of the content that has been posted to the internet, that’s protected in the eyes of the law

  • For sure. That one I can at least… Understand or appreciate that it is related to how hard it is to host potentially illegal content in the jurisdiction the instance is hosted in. But the way the MB/FC situation has been handled is… Embarrassing. Like there’s no way to defend it other than “you yourselves are biased and you want to dictate the kind of bias that is acceptable”

It speaks to a lack of media literacy by the moderation administration of the instance

  • You spent all those years down in the trenches implementing bullshit designs an architect came up with, positive you could do better if you just got the chance. Then you go to graduate school to get the qualifications companies say you need to be an architect. You receive a masters degree. You’re your companies leading expert on software design. You get promoted to architect.

That’s when you find out the truth. All those previous architects left for the same reason you someday will. It wasn’t the previous architects making the terrible decisions that frustrated you. It was the marketing team and the CEO telling the CTO that the software product must have certain buzzwords present in the design. Those buzzwords offer no value to what your software product is meant to accomplish. But if you don’t put them in the designs, they’ll fire you and hire someone who will play their games.

Eventually, you can’t take it anymore. Having interfaced with the upper levels of your company, and having the understanding of systems engineering you do, you realize that every software firm will be this. There is nowhere you can go that will be better. You start saving.

Your goal is to save enough money to purchase a small plot of land and put an organic farm on it. Your convictions for this farm are simple: it must be able to feed your family. This may not be exclusively what you envision for it, and you may not even intend for it to be the only source of food for your family, but it will help you be less reliant on the kinds of corporation you’ve come to know and come to see as irrevocably evil.

And then sometimes, you get people like this in the post. Who find enough success farming to focus their energy on it exclusively.

  • Yeah no for sure. That’s what I mean. None of what we do has a point. They sell us convenience with no value to us in terms of what we get from it because they immediately take it away from us as work. Everything is a scam and the only thing we get out of it is greenhouse gasses. Our lives need to get a little less convenient and we need to grow our own food so we’re no longer dependent on their chains of delivery for sustainance. We need communal self reliance to break free of their colonization of everyone by the multinational corporations, and to save the planet from annihilation. We must choose to do it for ourselves
