TopRamenBinLaden@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why did communism always turn into a kind of dictatorship?English6·7 months agoTo play devil’s advocate, none of those vanguard parties were ever allowed to exist peacefully. They were always attacked, from the inside and out, by capitalist and fascistic powers. It’s kind of hard to get rid of the state when it is needed to defend from other nations and groups looking to destroy it.
I’m not saying that a Vanguard party would necessarily ever voluntarily give up it’s powers and disintegrate into pure communism without a large part of the world struggling against it, but it would be more likely to.
That is just pure speculation, though, because we live in a world that has shown that it will struggle against communism until the end. The Vanguard Party idea is flawed, because it fails to account for this indefinitely long struggle, and fails time and time again to offer a valid exit strategy into the next stage of Socialism/Communism.
Unless you are a billionaire, or close to one, you aren’t doing what I was referring to.
Billionaires commonly use their stock as collateral to get low interest loans. Then they use these loans to buy investments with better returns than the low interests loans that they took out. They leverage this additional capital from the investment to take out an another lower interest loan to pay off the original loan.
They get to rinse and repeat this, unless the economy takes a huge nosedive. In that case, the amount of loans they have exceed the gains they are making and they actually have to liquidate assets and actually have to pay a lot of tax. The thing is, this doesn’t really happen often.
Unless they get real unlucky, most of them eventually die and pass down these investments to an heir before the economy ever nosedives. The heir can cash out without paying capital gains tax, because they get a fresh starting point at whatever the accumulated wealth was.
Basically, the capitalist class gets to avoid ever paying capital gains tax, and that sucks. This is just one of the ways they avoid paying anything back to the working class, there are plenty of others. They also use lots of legal loopholes to avoid estate tax, but that is another topic.
But also, billionaires don’t have billions of dollars sitting in the bank.
No, but some have billions of dollars in the stock market which they can use as a ‘bank’ anytime they want to buy something. Conveniently for them, all of that stock is unable to be taxed until it’s cashed out. Though, why would they ever cash out when they have the free money glitch using it as collateral? If they had it in the bank, then at least the interest could be taxed, I guess.

I think part of this comes down to the fact that disgusting, hateful comments will pop up on almost any YouTube video in the comment section, but you actually have to navigate to Steam forums with this content.
So, YouTube comments are thrown in your face and hard to not see, as they are right below the video, but Steam forum comments are at least hidden behind a few layers of clicks.
I agree that singling out Steam as if it’s the main problem, isn’t going to fix anything, at all.

TopRamenBinLaden@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most fucked up movie you ever watched?English1·1 year agoI’ve watched most of them as well, and Irreversible was the worst for me, somehow, even though its subject matter isn’t really as bad as some of the others.
The way too long and hyper realistic R scene is definitely a big part of it, but the movie also assaults you subconsciously throughout the whole thing. The soundtrack is full of low frequencies that are known to give people nausea and anxiety, and the constant strobe lights also just make it hard to even sit through the quiet scenes.
It is a punishing watch. Wouldn’t want to watch it again.

There is a man that wears chainmail armor made out of soda can pop tabs that is famous in both Tucson and Phoenix areas of Arizona. His name is Chicago, and you can catch him on the bus or at random punk and metal shows around AZ, if you are lucky.

Such a weird word, don’t blame you for misspelling it. I just kept reading a different word there.
a Creator sorta by definition has the legal right to do so, with their own work?
What is different between this and a mother or father killing their own child because they ‘created’ it? I would say that if you create a thing with feelings, thoughts, flesh, and blood, you have the responsibility to take care of that thing, and if you don’t that is cruel.
I don’t understand what is the benefit here over a terminal with a good non-LLM based autocomplete. I understand that, theoretically, LLMs can produce better autocomplete, but idk if it is really that big of a difference with terminal commands. I guess its a small shortcut to have the AI there to ask questions, too. It’s good to hear its well implemented, though.

Also, Marxist-Leninism is not a ‘tankie’ theory, by itself. There are plenty of communists and socialists that aren’t simps for China and Russia.
I would even say that you can’t be a true communist and support either of these countries, because these countries are not communist at all. They are just authoritarian capitalistic hellholes, with sprinkles of social policies to give the illusion of pursuing a communist society.

Most of the worst cases of vape related injury that I have ever read about involved terribly made THC cartridges containing Vitamin E acetate. I just know there were claims of popcorn lung and diacetyl in vape juices in the early days of vaping.
FWIW, I worked at a smoke shop for a few years during this time and we sold a lot of vape stuff from China. I never heard of a single customer complaint about anything health related to nicotine vapes, and these were the days where people were using those giant mods and blowing obnoxious clouds of vapor.
TopRamenBinLaden@sh.itjust.worksto Technology@lemmy.world•Online vape seller has ‘no intention of stopping’ shipments to Australia, despite nationwide ban — ‘We have no intention of stopping just because of one twat in Canberra.’English19·1 year agoPopcorn lung does not come from vaping any sort of regular vape juice that is on the market anymore. Popcorn lung came from inhaling vape juices that had Diacetyl, or Vitamin E acetate. These were used for flavoring in the early days of vapes before it was found out that they cause popcorn lung. It was also more common in THC vapes than nicotine ones.
I haven’t heard of one case of it happening since then, as all of the vape juice manufacturers stopped adding these ingredients years ago. I’m not saying vaping isn’t bad for you, it definitely is, but popcorn lung is not something anyone needs to be concerned about anymore. It is definitely not as bad for your health as smoking cigarettes, at least.
You are correct that gum or nicotine pouches are the least damaging way to consume nicotine.
