My mother keeps sending stuff over Facebook, my sister keeps inviting me to supposedly important events over Facebook, my work wants me to use twitter, and my brother in law keeps sending tiktock videos.
I remind all of them that I don’t use social media, and my Facebook account is only up for the 2 times a year I need it to get ahold of otherwise-unreachable people. If you want something, send me a text or email and be direct.
I had to fiddle with my own on my old laptop, I used one of the plethora of github scripts, but then they changed the api to limit access to (I think) about 100/min, so I just changed the delays to 1000ms so it would only delete 60/min.
Took two weeks, but I still haven’t seen any old content pop back up outside of archives and quotes from other comments in the thread.
I search for a couple random things I remember saying on ddg/bing/Google whenever I think about it, so far nothing.
As I’ve said before about certain countries, you know your platform is doing well when you (essentially) tell people “No, sorry, you can’t leave.”
My wife and I have been visiting half Price books and thrift stores to find dvds and blurays.
Me because I like director/actor commentaries, and behind the scenes/making of features, her because she hates when streaming services cycle through content.
Also secretly I figure if the world ends and I’m somehow alive, I’ve got my solar setup and several ways to watch my favorite shows to escape the hellish reality that is post-apocalyptic earth as I slowly die from malnutrition or radiation. But that’s like… So far down the list, I usually just bring it up for the lols.
Another anecdote for the “Springs Be Scary” list, I was helping my brother in law put theirs up two years ago, and similarly had trouble with the last spring.
We were using the tool included in the packaging, a little T post handle with a small hook on the end, sort of like one of those livestock processing hooks they use to grab heavy things with, just a lot smaller. And not sharp.
Well the last spring was being pulled back when the metal hook broke out of the handle, and shot into the nearby house window and broke one of the bottom panes.
Nobody was hurt, but with all the kids excitedly sprinting around, that metal bit was flying at eye level to 3 or 4 of them… Someone could have lost an eye.
Springs under load are scary as fuck, ask any garage door tech.
Yeah, but that makes it clearly a case of age-related memory issues and neurological degeneration, instead of vaguely sounding super mysterious and clickbaity
And they’ve got money to make over at literally every website that keeps retelling the story and puffing it up.
I wonder if there were any engineers on the Titanic who realized shit was hitting the fan before the rest of the passengers found out…
And I wonder if the feeling I have deep inside is anything like how they felt…
Shit like this is the rumbling of machinery coming to a halt, the deck tilting an extra degree toward the bow… People are already dying, but most of the passengers are blithely going about their day, not realizing what’s coming.
Don’t feel bad, it took until “valley” for me to realize, and those movies were my jam as a child.
