  • International relations are often tough to build, especially when one side is quite rude and then wanting special benefits afterwards.

The UK cut the ties, so the EU has more say in how relations are rebuilt. The UK had a ton of special exemptions and their own national identity in the EU then many other members and the UK still freaked out about how oppressed they were.

The EU doesn’t really owe the UK anything that’s not in still existing agreements and if the UK wants a relationship they’ll have to come to the table bringing something, not just hurling demands.

I’m just really glad that the UK leaving the EU didn’t devolve into armed conflict. That’s a pretty normal arc for such a big relations change.

I still use wired headphones and earbuds. On the phone it’s got a USBC connector, so I had to find a compact adapter. Fortunately USBC is a tough connector so they’re holding up well enough.

The earbuds themselves are very cheap. They normally only last a few years (3-5 or so). I snagged a couple little zip up pods that hold earbuds from a job fair years ago. As long as I do a quick coil up, it’s easy enough to pack them away and get them out without tangling. They also don’t get hurt living in my satchel.

I’ve considered moving to something wireless, but I have enough battery driven devices to babysit already.

  • In-city land owning GenX here: YIMBY through and through. Been fighting for it at the city level for decades now.

I hate how stupid and short sighted so many people are. Selfishness has destroyed our cities, gutted our neighborhoods, and given our cities over to monopolies by driving out small and medium businesses. Cities and neighborhoods cannot be kept in amber. They either grow and adapt or they die.

Let’s start building our city core through dense housing, removing automobiles (they don’t make cities better, and they certainly destroy them), and making places for people instead of asphalt wastelands.

  • When I’m in a city with good transit (so, not at home in the US), it’s wonderful to just kind of bop around town on the metro/tram. You don’t have to worry about parking and moving the second most expensive thing you own (or first most expensive). You don’t need to be anywhere in particular in the city since you can hop on transit and get around.

Cars actually tie you down in the city since you have to go back and get them. They’re a boat anchor on your freedom. Yes, they get you to a place, but then they tie you there until you go back to where you left them. Cars make life little loops while good public transit lets you wander freely.

Um… in every universe? That shit was awesome, creative, and joyful. Loved it.

I truly enjoy it when artists are given a stage to create and grow perspectives of the world around us. France nailed it on this front. Not sure about the 500k Euro lobster dinner, though. That’s just weird monarchy shit, and I thought France had a bit of a strong opinion on that.

  • I concur. Most “it gets worse” style posts have one or two odd things. This one truly delivered.

It’s a 3 bedroom (all queens?), 5 bath house with seating for 20. It’s either some crazy orgies at night in only a few beds, a business call center kind of place, or they had massive family gatherings with alarming regularity. Of course there’s always the cult option, which means it could also be “all of the above”.

There is the wall of family photos on shelves… Maybe family get together center?

What’s up with the industrial scale sewing equipment?

  • Did anyone notice that the garage interior photos show the misaligned joists about 3/4 of the way back over the truck/jimmy?

I’m not entirely sure they’re actually attached to anything.

Oh, and no code inspector ever saw that wiring.

Edit: oh, and the never ending AC unit chaos. They even vent multiple units into the enclosed garage! That just kind of overheats it and returns the entropy to the house?

Favorite AC unit placement: in the shower with its own little upper tier curtain.

Second favorite cooling feature: the structural box fans in the walls.
