One thing I’m learning from these types of questions is that knowledge isn’t power, money is. There is precious little I could do with future knolewedge outside of personal/family matters without first using that knowledge to make as much money as possible.

They need to focus back on the base product instead of adding more features. It has been over 1 year and chatgpt using gpt4 is still crippled to the point of being useless.

Could it just be that whistleblowing is intensely stressful and difficult (reporters, lawyers, harassment from former coworkers and company fanboys, difficulty finding new employment, etc.) I imagine all of that makes whistleblowers far more susceptible to disease and mental issues.
We need stronger whistleblower protection laws. Not just in case companies put out a hit, but also to help the whistleblowers endure and recover from doing the right thing…

Interesting. So two of the yellow counties in Alabama are home to the states two largest public universities. The third is the fastest growing area in the state and home to the state’s best beaches.
The blue one is lowndes county and was one of two mentioned a while back in that UN poverty report about open sewers, disease, and poor sanitation.
AAA appears to include insurance and that would cover some of those medical and legal fees. But that’s sort of my problem we can pull all sorts of numbers into this and push the stats around. Just the infrastructure costs of highways and bridges alone would extremely favor bicycles, but that would also require ignoring all the other use cases for roads (shipping, ambulances, etc.)
I don’t doubt that bicycles are much cheaper and much better (overall) economically compared to cars. I just doubted the numbers and methodology of the source.
That 1,600 hour number seems weird to me.
Looks like they took AAA’s annual estimate of the “true” cost of a new car $12,182 (https://newsroom.aaa.com/2023/08/annual-new-car-ownership-costs-boil-over-12k/) and divided by the federal minimum wage of 7.25 to get ~$1,680 or "more than 1,600)
Median weekly income in the US is $1139 (https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/wkyeng.pdf), which at 40 hours would be $28.47 per hour. or, 428 hours a year to pay for the car. Granted that is taking a broad median stat and assuming it equates to 40 hours of work, but that’s sort my problem. The whole exercise is just one assumption piled on another from the original AAA number to my own math…

Cups, teaspoons, and tablespoons in this context are standardized units of measure. It is very common to find at least one set of measuring cups and spoons in a US kitchen. Scales are uncommon.
I use both. For flour, scales are far, far superior. For sugar, it does not really seem to matter. For small amounts, I suspect my tea/tablespoons might be more accurate than my scale…
Not that accuracy matters that much in a recipe using eggs. Chickens aren’t necessarily known for precision…

I generally agree but I think it is starting to change. The primary protest votes suggest there is growing “disapproval” regarding Israel, and this is among actual voters. Not enough to make it politically “safe” for Biden to outright oppose Israel now, but it is something.
Why would I want to schedule my entire day around a showtime, arrive early just to stand in line, pay a small fortune, skipping the popcorn and coke (overpriced and gone by the time the ads finish…), sit through 20 minutes of commercials (followed by trailers), for a movie that isn’t even that entertaining, with a sound system that is not particularly good (just loud) on a screen that is big but somehow less detailed than my TV at home?
At home I can pick from a huge variety of movies, start them on my schedule, eat/drink whatever I want. Pause to pee or even stop and watch the rest later. Adjust the volume to my satisfaction. Swap to a different movie if it is bad or doom scroll through the slow parts. If I want the movie theater experience I can just sit real close, turn the volume all the way up, and ban myself from using the toilet.
That said, what I do appreciate about theaters is getting to do something different, and breaking routines. That and the nostalgia factor. I want to like going to movies, but doing so is just a pain and takes more effort and planing than it should.

I know the easy answer, that it is all just made up, but even so these passages are two thousand years or so old and have been a major part of societies and cultures, which included many great thinkers and theologens more knowledgeable than me or any random person online.
Even if this is all a two thousand year old, self perpetuating delusion, that itself would be fascinating…
I wonder if fossil fuel companies are pushing these stories to undermine support for climate change policies.
