  • You can’t possibly know if people who don’t support the BSA have experience with it or not if they don’t mention it, what a wild assumption. I was in scouts and enjoyed the outdoor activities and merit badge system, but it was definitely not an inclusive troop by any means. I didn’t notice until my teens, but anyone who was even a little bit different was bullied not just by the other scouts but also the adult leaders. It made me not want to continue past Star. And it’s so weird that they taught the concept of exclusive secret societies for the elite (Order of the Arrow).

  • Laying people off instead of offering to move them to the now-more-important projects has to be one of the dumbest management moves that tech companies repeatedly do. These are people already trained on all the policies and procedures and tooling and “culture” specific to your company.

It’s going to be more expensive to hire and train new people when the dumdums in upper management finally figure out the mistakes they made that got them to a point where they decided they need to cut jobs and projects, and the ramp-up time before you actually start seeing progress on those priorities is going to be seriously lengthened. Of course they won’t acknowledge it was their fault in the first place, and again the heads roll on the wrong end of the corporate ladder.

  • Is Adobe still the standard? When I realized browsers and 3rd party apps render PDFs much quicker than Reader, I started looking for other alternatives to Adobe. I was familiar with the flow of PaintShop Pro and GIMP, so now the very little I did in Photoshop I do in GIMP/Inkscape/a couple other freebie tools. When they acquired Macromedia and killed Flash, I was out of their ecosystem, so my poor knowledge of their products is almost 2 decades old. What are their can’t-live-without products nowadays?
