Recently I’ve been getting cold called by friends on Discord for no other reason other than they saw me online. What do they want? Just to chat…

… About what? Our days? Its the same shit every day: wake up, work, eat, sleep, poop, etc. About your latest grocery trip? No offense bro but I just don’t care. Unless you have something tangible to talk about, just don’t. 80% of the time its me just going “uh-huh”, “yep”, “damn that’s crazy” to their tales about whatever utterly mundane shit is going on around them.

I don’t know if other people are like me in this aspect and maybe I’m just an asshole, but I was raised in a household where we didn’t waste words. Even today I will go months without talking to my parents because we simply have nothing to talk about unless something comes up. We just don’t feel the need to call each other regularly for the sake of it.

I know this is a deeply unpopular opinion with people. Most people look at me like I have 6 heads when I tell them how little I call my parents or friends. They just can’t fathom not knowing every detail little about each other’s lives.

Don’t call me just to chat unless you have something to talk about.
