So, for example, when you see the Asgard in Stargate, they didn’t got their look from the new age pop culture of the Greys, but the Greys are real and this is some sort of sublime messaging or conditioning. If I recall correctly, GoT was originally proposed by GRRM as straight historical fiction about the Wars of the Roses and his publishers (wisely, it seems) suggested he use that history and turn it into fantasy.
