I think the word they’re looking for is “passage”, it’s called a “rite of passage”.
Also, I don’t think they understand that ‘rite’ is a ritual and ‘right’ is an allowance.
Though this isn’t their intent, rite actually makes more sense for this stuff. They try to use words as spells and mysticism to subvert laws by performing rites.

In a different context, I might read that as a thoughtful and subtle pun.
