I don’t think Trump realises that we buy more cars and parts from the US than vice versa. I imagine if US manufacturers do leave, Canada will just pivot to EU and Asian brands. I’d love to see Renault, Citreon, and BYD here.

So we lose 30,000 or so jobs up here, while Ford, GM et al, who are already in a precarious position, need to be bailed out again. The capital costs of this kind of restructuring will be eye watering. This could be a spectacular own goal. Ford and GM are already in debt up to their eyeballs. And the future might not be so rosy for Tesla.

Also, if he’s serious about relocating Aluminium production back to the US, he is really going to need those Canadian energy imports.

I’d offer him an egg in this trying time, but…

I would love to buy an EV, but our only options in Canada are US brands. The Chinese EVs are more efficient, longer range, and cheaper (if it didn’t have 100% tariff on it). The only reason the tariffs are on those cars is to help protect the US auto markets.

I think it’s safe to say the USA is no longer our friend and we owe them jack shit at this point. Remove the Chinese EV tariffs, bring in these cheap EVs, and we can move away from oil sooner.

Yes, I never understood why the French brands aren’t present in Quebec. They make more reasonably sized cars anyway.

The americans asked us to keep their competitors out, probably. Although I believe CETA eliminated those tarrifs so you might start seeing them around. I always loved that shitty little Citreon C3.

The 250% on dairy is because the USA refused to stop subsidizing its dairy farmers to overproduce. Remove the subsidies or it isn’t fair trade.

Hey, that’s a similar reason they have a tariff on our soft wood.

Well, Donald, that is what happens when you tariff a trading partner, they put a tariff on you, Donald. Just like Russia can end the war at any moment they wish by simply leaving Ukraine, you, Donald, can end this trade war the same way by just stopping it.

Soft wood is because it’s a Federal Agreement not a State Agreement

States are free to put their own tariffs on imports, that’s why NAFTA was so beneficial to the US

The kitchen I work in is in a state bordering Canada. We use Canadian meat produced less than two hours away from our storefront on family farms, not some massive agriculture conglomerate. We know these people on a first name basis and have bought from them for well over a decade.

That might have to stop. We’ve already seen our prices go up 25% in the last month because these families have to compensate for the stupid fucking tariffs levied on them for shipping product less than two hours away.

We need these Canadian products because there is no state-side alternative that doesn’t require us to kiss corpo ass or use inferior product at a higher cost. Trump’s bullshit is not only hurting the farms we rely on, but hurting us as well from the loss in sales we see from price jumps. The fact people voted this simpleton into office knowing shit like this was going to happen is infuriating beyond words.

    Whiniest president ever.

Every president before has a number of sensible, inspiring and intelligent quotes.

This one will be remembered for his grade ten level school yard remarks, insults and come backs

Straining himself on the toilet while crying into a bucket of fried chicken over the price of eggs.

Musk knocking at the KFC bathroom door, ‘is everything OK in there.’
