  • I’ve been using a computer on an almost daily basis for over a decade now, and before that I used one whenever I had the opportunity because I’ve loved computers since I was a kid. I’m 30 and have carpal tunnel in my mouse hand, not bad enough to get it surgically fixed, but I wear a wrist brace pretty much 24/7 at this point to keep the pain under control.

That said I agree with your point about using whatever you’re comfortable with completely, just wanted to throw my own anecdotal experience out there for others to see. Everyone’s different and what’s fine for you or me may not be for others.

  • Do you not spend at least half of every day being angry about how much capitalism sucks? Filthy shitlib, you’re no better than a right winger /s

It’s no wonder the right is on the rise all around the world, they don’t have “purity tests” the way a lot of left wingers do. They don’t give a shit, if you support the cause then you’re one of them.

But the left? “Oh you don’t 100% support everything I want? Guess I’ll just not vote because both sides are just as shitty”

To clarify, I’m an NDP voter which is the left most party in Canada.

  • Honestly, the sooner the bigger instances defederate from .ml, the better. It will suck to lose some of those comms, but pretty much all the major ones have replacements on other instances, and defederating from them will force people to go to those replacements.

I too, got the instance wide ban stick for saying .ml mods suck in one of their comms. I was being a dick and deserved the ban (from the comm not the whole instance IMO) for saying that, but with how much they abuse instance bans they deserve to be defederated. Can’t say anything even remotely negative about the mods/admins or disagree with their opinions without getting banned from tons of completely unrelated comms.

Let them stew in their own little circlejerk like hexbear. The wider lemmyverse would be better off for it.

  • That’s completely fair, I don’t begrudge anyone for using .world, that’s a very good reason to use .world tbh. There are other stable instances though, and I’m gonna shill for my own instance, the .ca admin is top tier and very transparent with the userbase. They straight up said -

“The community is what makes this happen. IMHO any major decision that impacts all of you, should involve all of you.”

Edit: This was said in the thread about potentially refederating with hexbear. I’m sure they knew it would be an extremely unpopular opinion to refederate with that shithole but they still sought out the communities opinion rather than making the decision on their own. Massive respect for doing that, and they abided by the communities wishes to not refederate with them.

Rare to find an admin like that IMO, .ca is where it’s at.

  • Move to a different instance. Honestly, .world is too big and has too much influence. I get most people just wanna join the biggest instance but tons of other instances federate with .world so you can still have the content without the majority convening on one instance and giving them most of the power.

What would happen if .world went down? Tons of accounts and communities would be lost, people need to spread out to different instances instead of trying to make .world reddit 2.0.

Edit: just saw you’re not on .world, that’s my bad. But my point still stands.

  • I like to listen to music or books while I work, and I have to drive a work vehicle a few times a day, and a big forklift to do my job. Both have a radio built in but no easy way to connect my phone to listen to my own stuff. I eventually found that I actually enjoy listening to the radio, especially the local news updates.

Once I realised that, I thought “oh god I’m turning into my dad”

I’m 30 and haven’t liked the radio since I was around 10 (aka when I got my first CD played)

  • A few days ago I ran out to get a few things, and this car ahead of me is going 20Km/h below the 50 limit for 5 minutes, then comes to a dead stop in an intersection, starts slowly turning and then puts on their blinker. Honked at them for being a fucking dumbass and they just wave me off like I’m the asshole

God I fucking hate how easy it is to get and keep a license. Enforcement needs to be much stricter because there are far too many morons on the road.

  • I agree, I’m quite happy with Bazzite so far!

For now, I’m going to stick to Steam games on Linux since I still have a 2TB Windows drive for my main games. My plan is to use Bazzite to get a feel for Linux and eventually move completely over from Windows once I’m more comfortable with the OS and know how to get everything I want up and running. I’m honestly having fun with being new to an OS with more options, I haven’t had to google such seemingly basic tasks for a computer since I was a kid.

I’m using the KDE version of Bazzite and I’m really liking it. It reminds me of being a kid and exploring Windows 98 for the first time, everything is new and interesting, and searching through the menus to see all the different options brings back a certain nostalgia.

I’d like to ask a few questions if anyone is willing to help me out :)

My mouse is a Logitech G502 X+ and I don’t know what software to use to configure my mouse in Bazzite, what’s the Linux replacement for Logitech GHub? My mouse works perfectly but I don’t know what to use to customize the DPI for example.

What’s the best practice for installing apps or programs outside of the built in “app store”? For example, I downloaded the Plex media server app as a .RPM file but I’m not quite sure how to install it. I already installed the Plex app through Bazzite OS’ default app store, but in Windows I needed the Plex media server app to be able to serve up videos to other people as far as I know. Makes me feel dumb, but I’m used to .EXE’s where it just installs itself. What do I do with a .RPM file? Or any other Linux programs downloaded from a website, like (I think?) tar.bz etc? I know how to access the files and extract them, but I’m not sure where to put the programs in general.

Thanks for your useful information btw! It’s much appreciated!

  • I just installed bazzite on my 2nd SSD last night, haven’t used it much yet but I’m looking forward to customising it to my liking and getting a feel for the OS. First time using Linux since 2014 when I dabbled in Ubuntu and mint for a while.

Any tips for a computer literate but relative newbie to bazzite(Linux in general really)? My pc is pretty much exclusively a gaming pc so thats my only real concern. About to download some games from my steam library to see how things go.
