Haven’t watched Wolverine in a long time, although I’ve heard the new one with Deadpool is actually pretty good. (It’s the ad on the TV)

Well obviously not for fish. Sounds like someone’s never bought fresh pigeons from the grocery store, smh.
I wouldn’t think so, since Mastadon isn’t inherently “owned” by any one company and doesn’t rely on an advertising business strategy.
The death of local journalism is a tragedy. It’s resulted in far less local accountability for city/county governments and businesses. There is no easy solution, though. I mean, there is, but getting everyone to give a shit and support local journalism is apparently not an easy endeavor.
I saw reports of this yesterday morning. Absolutely insane. The GOP terrorist cells’ disinformation campaign against FEMA needs to be treated for what it is by the major new outlets: Terrorism. These people are completely unhinged, and it’s not only impacting FEMA officials and other volunteers, it’s hindering the storm victims’ ability to recover. The population at large needs to turn on these traitors.
Hah, that’s interesting. I tried looking up to see if that’s true, but I’m not finding any reliable sources, only sites and articles talking about the first message sent on ARPANET.
it is literally the whole damn point of shoving AI down everybodies throat…
To be fair, it didn’t start out that way. A lot of tech companies just didn’t want to be seen as being behind while OpenAI was making shockwaves around the globe. Iirc, after ChatGPT hit the mainstream a couple years ago, Google’s CEO was said to have sent a company-wide email demanding their own AI research become their number 1 priority.
Now that they finally have their own competitive model, they have to justify why they spent hundreds of millions of dollars over numerous years on this tech. Unfortunately for the rest of us, this just means enshittification will reach new levels… sigh…
Iirc, tasks requiring elevated permissions wasn’t the main complaint, maybe just one of the most vocal ones.
Even with good hardware, it was not optimized for performance in general. This was amplified by the fact they also marketed Vista as having a wide range of older hardware support, which resulted in many users upgrading from XP only to have their performance absolutely tank. I think there was even a lawsuit because of how they marketed some devices as, “Vista ready.”
Regardless, Vista was still better than Windows 8.
I’ve been using a Steam Deck for almost a year damn near daily with maybe 1 OS crash that was largely due to a very unstable game. How is ArchLinux unstable, exactly?
Oh for sure, I fully understand that there are tons of things/mechanics we take for granted every day that we don’t actually know how it/they work(s) at the most fundamental level. Static electricity just seemed like a pretty important one that I’d just assumed it was well and thoroughly researched/understood.
Anyway, completely agree with you that this breakthrough is great news and that there are some exciting practical applications that may emerge as a result, particularly the more that model is understood/completed.
I had no idea this was unknown, and it’s even crazier that the model for it is still not complete even after this breakthrough. More power to them, being able to fully understand triboelectricity and eventually fully controlling it will be great. Hopefully they’re able to crack the rest of the mystery soon.
I was super annoyed when they first took away the links. “Pages are more dependably available now,” is such a lazy excuse. Storing the cached content probably wasn’t even that expensive for them, as it didn’t retain anything beyond basic html and text. Their shitty AI-centric web search was likely the main reason for getting rid of it.
Name one outrage among conservatives in the US when a white person was cast for a role that was any other ethnicity in the source material. Sure, it happens on the Left, Netflix is especially accused of white washing (recent example: Three Body Problem). But, conservatives don’t give a shit when it happens the other way around.
Regardless, I truly couldn’t give a shit who gets cast for what regardless of source material. If the actor/actress is able to play the part well, I come for entertainment and couldn’t care less.
Personally, I think the lack of outrage is because the people who get outraged by black people being cast for roles that were previously white characters, aren’t concerned when it’s white people being cast no matter the source material.
You can blame companies like Disney for getting copyright protections extended to the absurd length it is now. Hell, because of them, Steamboat Willie only just recently fell into public domain and that came out in 1928.
Oh no, the horror of not being able to coast off of some popular skit shows and movies from 40 years ago!
I really enjoy a lot of MP movies, but you can’t expect what was already somewhat niche comedy to pay for a comfortable life forever. Come up with new material and, y’know, put effort in.
It depends. If their kid is well behaved and their parents are close by (within a ~10 feet/~3m of the child), I don’t mind much. I only get annoyed when kids’ parents just straight up leave the immediate area without asking me first if I can keep an eye on them for a few minutes. Though, in the library, it isn’t that big of a deal, since the kids areas tend to be well monitored by staff and open enough for parents to have clear line of sight. And I am 100% not afraid of telling a stranger’s kid to clean their shit up afterwards in the library. If they get mad at me I’ll just point up at the big board with the rules in our library that says to clean up after yourself.
This is probably the correct answer. I drove around without a front license plate for over 4 years (my state requires front and back) since my car didn’t come with screws for a front mount. It was one of those things I put on my to-do list but never got around to and eventually just kind of forgot about it.
Anyway, I live close to a couple of police stations (I live near a border to another city, so my city and the next city have PDs within a couple miles of each other) and never got pulled over. Hell, I have even went through several traffic stops over the years and none of them ever said a word to me. A few months ago I finally ran into a cop that actually gave a shit and pulled me over. He was obviously a new recruit, as he was very young and did everything very by-the-book. I got a warning and the next day I ordered a mount for my other plate, but I was just amazed I’d gone so many years without any cop caring. I figured it was because most cops just can’t be bothered to care about small shit like that. Though, if I was a minority (I’m in the US), it’d probably be a different story.
According to your equaldex link, there seems to be some conflicting data there. In one of the questions, over 70% of those surveyed said they wouldn’t want gay neighbors, and over 80% said being gay isn’t justifiable. But 63% support legal recognition of gay couples. Then 66% support gay couples being able to adopt, yet almost 60% have negative views on gays being parents?
Just weird to me you can support legal aspects but still mostly oppose homosexuality, is all. I suppose it’s better than wanting legal oppression of homosexuality.
I truly hope this leads to the collapse of Chrome’s sheer market dominance. Fuck Google.
