It did pass and is tied to performance of the company. He doesn’t actually get a 55B bonus. His bonus is in the form of stock, its award is tiered based on revenue-tied performance, and he can’t sell the stock until 5 years after it’s awarded, as to prevent a pump-and-dump incentive structure.

Insurance companies give people discounts based on driving habits good driving habits, like the lack of speeding and hard braking… which can be determined by gps. They also charge more for people that drive more miles per year because it exposes the vehicle to more possibilities of being involved in accidents.

It’s not unreasonable for them to ask for access to your gps data… it is definitely unreasonable for you to give them access to your gps data.

I always thought it was a huge concern to let the insurance company have gps access to my phone because it gives them exact times when I am away from my home.

Insurance companies’ more nefarious employees or employee’s friends have an exact playbook for when it’s safe to break into your home, how much money you have(based on how many and the types of cars you have policies on), how many people could be at home (insured on policy), credit rating… etc. It’s not data that you couldn’t get with a bit of research and time, but having a searchable database full of customer info makes it easy to list out hundreds of targets with little effort.

I have a friend that uses it to make outlines for stories (with tone, setting, general plot arch, writing style) and then fills in each block of the outline with a well developed story, iterating all the way through until they are happy with it… with his kids, as a bedtime exercise. It’s a pretty awesome exercise where the family spends time together, learns about creativity and how to structure a story, and ultimately comes out the back end with a memory they can share and a story they can pass around to friends and family.

If you spend the time to learn how to use it as a tool, there is a ton of value in it, even in its current iteration. It’s a tool in the early stages of development. As it matures as a product, there are a lot of gains to be made.

The social media zeitgeist wants to push it as a terrible thing that isn’t living up to its hype… but it really just shows a lack of creativity and understanding of how to use new tools. Every story I see about how AI is a waste of resources and won’t ever amount to anything just makes me cringe a little bit and shows how disconnected media is from reality. If you can’t find value in a tool, maybe look inward to see if you have some growing to do rather than lashing out at the tool for not solving all of your problems.

They may not be perfect yet, but if their track record is safer than a human driver they aren’t any worse than any of the other assholes on the road.

Millions of human drivers are risking the lives and safety of the non-consenting public, too, but we aren’t advocating for stronger driving tests to keep bad drivers off the road. We’re just bitching about someone else trying to solve the problem because it isn’t a perfect solution on day 1.

I just had a total brain lapse… yeah. I was replacing my battery every 3 years when I had a Buick. Humid, hot climate and what not.

If you just look at sticker price, it seems dumb to think of buying an ev. Think about all of the money you spend on top of that 10k initial purchase for an ice vehicle for maintenance and energy. Add up all of the expense associated with the car over the amount of time you use it. Now look at all of the cost associated with an EV. If the cost of the ice vehicle is less, buy that. If not, buy an ev.

I’ve saved around 2-3k a year on gas alone since I bought my ev. My electric rates are less than a third of what I was spending on gas. Never have to change the oil or flush a radiator either. If I drive it for around 1 more years, I’ll be saving money on the total purchase. If I drive it another 8 years, I’ll have saved more money than the total cost of the vehicle.

It’s all dependent on how much you buy it for, the tax incentives you can get, how much you drive, and where you can charge on whether it’s right for you. It’s not right for some and is a no-brainer for others.

The media currently loves shitting on Tesla because Elon is a dick. The cars aren’t bad and a lot of the issues you hear about were early iteration problems that happen to all hardware manufacturers… that’s why you see a lot of the legacy auto brands backing off production despite the actual sales and adoption numbers. I wouldn’t buy a cybertruck for a few years, but most of their other cars are mature enough to be good purchases that save money over the life of the purchase.

I have a 2017 model s with 107k miles on it that I haven’t had any major issues with. I’ll never go back to an ICE vehicle and am waiting on a good electric motorcycle to hit the market.

I have a 2017 Tesla Model S (100kwh). I had my first maintenance issue this year. The 12v battery needed replacing (it runs the aux systems, just like an ICE vehicle) but didn’t keep me from driving while it was sending the error code. 107k miles and it’s mostly been wiper fluid, wiper blades, and 2 tire changes. I need to replace my windshield, but electrically and mechanically speaking… no major issues.
