Grumman Aerospace sent North American Rockwell an invoice for towing the Apollo 13 Command Module back with the Lunar Module.
In response North American reminded Grumman that North American Rockwell had not received any payment for ferrying the Lunar Modules on previous trips to the moon.

Contract number BK-2-ERTH
BILL OF LADING NO.: AQUARIUS - NO 1
And more jokes! It gets better the longer you look.
I’m missing this one. What’s the joke here?
Aquarius was the name of LM-7. The Lunar Module on the Apollo 13 flight. The command module was called Odyssey if anyone is interested.
Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In released in 1967 and hit number 1 on the Billboard 100 in 1969.
Heh, the additional guests is clever.
They seemed pretty stern about that check out date. I wonder who had booked it for the next day?
No TV, with radio
Charges for keeping this invoice confidential: $100,000.00
Considering we’re seeing this invoice right now, they didn’t keep it confidential did they?
Automatic declassification is the declassification of information based upon the occurrence of a specific date or event as determined by the original classification authority; or the expiration of a maximum time frame for the duration of classification established under the Order (25 years).
It’s possible that the source of the document is the government itself, and the tow company maintained their end of the agreement.
the tow company
I love that you call one of the largest defense contractors on the planet “the tow company”.
perhaps the NDA has expired
Well of course they didn’t. Who wants to pay $100k to keep it confidential? Leak it and you save yourself six figures.
But the Soviet!
I think the document is real but totally fake. Just a joke they had a courrier deliver for a laugh.
I think theres an implicit understanding that if you dont pay, then its no longer confidential
Without that extra 2% cash discount, it would have been $420k and change. Nice.
these prices are astronomical

This is a great til post!!!
Oh man I spent a long time just looking at this and reading the handwriting and trying to figure out what was being towed. At first I thought it must be a ship, but supplemental oxygen? Maybe it was a submarine mission? Maybe they had to keep something burning? Then I saw Apollo 13 and was like “oh, hmm…ohhhhhhhh.”
Damn, Grumman throwing mad shade.
