If you understand Danish, any of the communities on Feddit.dk should be interesting… But otherwise they probably aren’t :P

Does it though? You can still put up a fork somewhere else as long as you uphold the license right? Unless I guess in the case where the license explicitly disallows forks, but I don’t think that’s very common (can you even do that?).
keep atmosphere on a planet sounds super risky
Does it though? I imagine that even if the system malfunctioned, the atmosphere would not disappear overnight. It would likely take a long time for the atmosphere to be affected significantly, which should give plenty of time to repair the system.
how to restart Mars’s dynamo
Wasn’t there a kurzgesagt video that said something about being able to protect an atmosphere on Mars artificially via satellites and magnetism or something? I swear there was. So maybe we don’t even need to restart Mars’s dynamo (which let’s be real, would probably be impossible).
They are likely tidally locked to TRAPPIST-1, such that one side of each planet always faces the star, leading to permanent day on one side and permanent night on the other.
Sounds less great then and I think it also says they maybe don’t have an atmosphere. I wonder if we can find out more about these planets in our lifetimes.
Because CPU registers are all powers of 2, i.e. exponential in this fashion. And it’s also just the same reason - 64 is high enough, why go to 96 or 80 or something?
AfD is Alternative fur Deutschland, a far right party. This divide is present ever since the division of Germany into East and West Germany and persists to this day despite the fact that the wall fell in 1989. It is definitely not coincidence that there is a political and demographical divide.
I think time travel would be the coolest. I’d like to see the distant future, see how far we’ve come. I’d like to go back and see historical moments and verify that they actually are what history says. I’m sure a nontrivial amount of our (distant) history as we know it is just wrong because the facts were lost to time.
I’ll probably update within a week as well :)
Even reddit is still niche when it comes to social media and has always been. It’s become a little more mainstream the last few years, but for most people social media still equals Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and such.
Very nice even :D
But maybe Rust isn’t that niche, but the Fediverse apps and projects are niche themselves.
Lemmy is niche even within the fediverse, where microblogging still dominates and the threadiverse style apps are smaller. It’s just not a very large space.
I haven’t had big problems honestly. Still have less than 100GB of storage, which is like 0 dollars on object storage.
I found it very easy to start with the ansible setup and later changed to self managed docker. I even moved servers once and it worked fine.
Overall I haven’t had any issues, but I’m also a software engineer so maybe I know more than others. There are some missing features for sure, but I don’t think it’s so bad so far at least.
Definitely. Also remember avatars a lot.
Agreed, I would definitely not refer to the first one as self hosting without qualifying further.
It attracts a different audience, so in aggregate it seems like your community is suddenly bigger because 1+1=2 right? What you don’t realize is that you’ve divided your community into two separate groups with possibly different wants, needs and cultures.
Unless that “one place” is an open, federated standard that allows anyone to participate with their own self-hosted server - i.e. “one place” = the fediverse, then it’s fine!
Nice avatar lol
I really don’t think genetics have much to do with the current populations’ intelligence compared to many generations prior. There’s simply not been enough time evolutionarily speaking to make a difference I would say. Basically all of recorded history is a blip when considering evolution on a longer time scale.
Education and a stable, fruitful upbringing is what makes smart people if you ask me.
But I’m mostly basing this on a gut feeling or a hunch, not really anything rigorous.
The most active is probably the news community, !nyheder@feddit.dk with 80 active users per week according to the sidebar. I think a good portion of them are users on external instances.
