If Israel goes out of Gaza the whole war was meaningless for them, similar to Ukraine’s demands for Russia to give back everything. I don’t think they can do that, that would be political suicide at home for them.
0·5 months agoOh but I agree to your sentiment of subscriptions. the only subscription I have is a Server at Hetzner. I hosted my stuff from home before but with all the constant moving it’s very complicated. So it’s worth to me to pay the 20 EUR a month for hosting a VPS. Another subscription is access to the internet and rent. But other than that I don’t have anything.
For me it’s mostly the opposite. I really like my things digital, not physical. I already live in the 4th country in my life. I can’t move any physical things with me, but if it’s digital it needs almost no space. I printed photos as photo books because I thought it’s much easier to access. Now all of them are still in Sweden and my friend who has my stuff in her attic is asking me to get my stuff because she is moving and doesn’t want to deal with my stuff. But because I’m in South Korea, I can’t get them. It’s way to expensive to move it. But I don’t want to throw them away, but probably will need to.
I have all those pictures in digital form and do access them far more often than I’d think. I wrote scripts which show random old pictures on the TV and post a “today X years ago” picture to different family chats.

I did what the parent waz talking about to 3 children and 2 Seniors and one middle aged guy.
One child complained that he couldn’t install windows games his peers were playing but other than that no complains.
I installed Ubuntu on older laptops, made sure everything works. Turned on auto updates and installed VNC server software if help would be necessary.
I also have one person with windows I help remotely.
The only difference for me is that the windows user somehow constantly has some bullshit extensions or something which change the browser behavior.
Practically the only thing those people use is a browser.
Oh and nobody has a discrete graphics card which would require a driver. Each of those laptops worked fine from scratch, no hardware problems.

I just put everyone’s first name there as the username for the whole family.
It’s really annoying that the unique identifier is the username and domain instead of an ID. My fiance switched her nationality and therefore her legal name, but there is no way to change it in PeerTube where I made an account for her. OK theoretically we can create a new account and change the ownership of each of her videos but there are hundreds of them.
Why would this asshole not be able to order Microsoft to start implementing this software after they got elected if they didn’t do that before he was elected?
I’m staying a single user instance for a couple of reasons.
As far as I remember they couldn’t manage all the problematic content, especially comments with the limited resources and bad moderation tools in Lemmy to deal with the huge amount of people from the biggest instance.
I’m on a very small one and am still federated.
But what about the blue chat bubbles?!
Yeah something like the CX22 https://www.hetzner.com/cloud/ which is € 4.51 / month is enough for lemmy.
What I do instead is I host a series of services on my VPS and I pay about 20 EUR/month
and I probably forgot some things.
