You may not like their posts but that doesn’t automatically make them a troll. If they’re trying to get a reaction, then yes, but sometimes, these “trolls” aren’t even trolls
I feel like the amount of actual trolls and bad-faith posters made many people hyper vigilant about anything that looks like a potential bait. The general polarization also causes people to react more rashly rather than approaching something in good faith and responding in polite and constructive manner.
That’s not to say everyone is irrational and wrong about how they react but it really does seem like some would rather yell at any sign of opposition or doubt instead of talking it out. It’s an unfortunate result of the times we live in, to some extent.
Ive had people call me a troll or a trump supporter because I think the democrats are also bad for supporting genocide. I think these people are just brutally stupid. That’s the only reason I can think of for someone not being able to fathom that I don’t like genocide.
How many comments have you made in support of the Uighurs?
Whataboutery much?
Not at all. When someone claims that they don’t like genocide, but only ever makes noise about the one they can use to get fascists elected, I think that’s relevant.
I am not in support of ANY genocide. I am much more upset with genocides that MY COUNTRY is complicit in, and that I can actually help to stop. Don’t be a fucking idiot.
Got it. The only genocides you care about are the ones that require you not to vote Democrat in 2024.
I’m sure you’re not buying anything made in China then, right?
Im not engaging with your bad faith argument bullshit.
It’s not a bad faith argument. You don’t like genocide. China is doing what you don’t like to the Uighurs. One can only presume that you don’t buy products made in China, since that funnels money and power to the Chinese government.
Unless it’s just the one genocide you don’t like.
By your logic then if you voted for democrats or republicans then you like genocide.
Whatever helps you sleep at night, supporter of Uighur genocide.
Bipartisan propaganda against China does not restrain itself in making black/white genocide accusations that are more political than factual. Xinxang is quite prosperous now after the most historically humane response to counter terrorism. There are no improvement/success/peace metrics to make US stop shit talking China.
And a troll casually walks into the bar
we needed an example subject XD
How often do the ughurs come up vs the Israel/Gaza conflict?
Exactly.
Too many people don’t know what trolling actually is, and also assume anything said to them is hostile.
Trolling implies intent. Are they trying to piss you off, or are you just being an over sensitive little bitch?
It’s probably an easier pill to swallow than the idea that someone might have valid reasons to disagree with them.
I think this is the best answer here. I see this happen constantly in online discussions.
In some cases, assuming the poster is a troll is the more charitable alternative.
i don’t. i see plenty of trolls whom i agree with, they are just dicks about it obviously looking to get a rise out of people.
i treat them the same way as all trolls: ignore, downvote, block, report if against the rulez. not that hard nor complicated.
Makes sense, I’m talking about people who call everyone a troll and complain about it.
At least you’re not like that
it’s just easy for others to resort to their headcanons than waste time and braincells for anything that they think don’t benefit them.
being open and understanding is hard work yo
I remember one time I was arguing with some guy about I don’t remember what but I left to do real-life stuff and didn’t check Lemmy for like 2-3 days and came back to find him arguing with someone else and being adamant that I created another account just to make it seem like more people disagreed with him. Some people prefer to make shit up than to face that they might actually be wrong.
these ‘trolls’ are just regular users.
Umm, every human is a regular user. Every regular user comes with these defaults - 1) instinct to react, and 2) defend their worldview. It takes patience and mental effort to not instinctively react, but rather shut up & ponder & reflect. 49 out of 50 want to win the debate but only 1 out of 50 wants to solve the problem.
True
It’s easier to insult someone you disagree with than to have a rational, intelligent discussion.
If the"trolls"are just people with different opinions, it’s to discredit them.
Either
- They’re a troll
- The replier is the troll
- the replier is an idiot
calling people trolls has become excuse just like calling everything harassment. its for people who have no arguments and are very sensitive snowflakes that probably should not be using the internet in the first place.
Many people do not understand how to politely disagree. Sometimes they will accuse people of things because they cannot properly communicate their views
It’s a pattern of behavior. If a user spends their time nitpicking every minor detail of a comment, but seems to be incapable of understanding that other people have different ideas, or worse purposefully parses someone’s language incorrectly just to continue an argument back and forth without any progress or even a desire to see a resolution, only wanting to have the last word, I consider that to be trolling. Nobody has benefited from the interaction, and everybody leaves frustrated, annoyed, and only further entrenched in their original position.
I think people have pretty different ideas of what behavior counts as trolling, but simply disagreeing with a user or not liking their posts doesn’t make them a troll.
