These products are not built for consumers.
they’re often built for investors. they are feasible enough products that some people will even buy them, so you get investors. then, the thing is always just “one more issue we need to fix” away from “mass adoption”, “for real this time”… to keep milking the investors as long as possible.

that’s what they want. we’re entering the “whale economy”. why should they make and sell 10 burgers for $1 each when they could make and sell 1 burger for $10? they make the same revenue but more profit because their labor and materials could be cut by up to 90%. some idiot will keep paying because they’re impulsive or desperate or have enough money to simply not care. if nine customers are alienated for the one that opens their wallet 10x wider than usual, the investors are happy and the MBAs give themselves bonuses and celebrate. it works for mobile/f2p games, it works for saas, it works for software, it’ll work for this and it’ll work for every other industry before long. get ready for surge pricing groceries and gas and internet and power - it’s coming, under the false justification of “savings”. the unprofitable non-whales can die for all they care.

People who are modifying Windows this deeply are not going to switch to Linux
I did. I was a heavy Windows customizer and deeply understand it as an operating system and target for application development. I left because, at some point, I realized the OS I (one way or another) paid for was treating me like a product instead of a user, and I resent that. I don’t like the feeling of slowly losing grip on the OS as it slides into becoming adtech tooling for marketing interests instead of the thing that runs programs for me. Despite my entrenched Windows knowledge, none of my primary personal computers run it anymore, including my gaming PC. Adaptation is a lot easier than most people expect, in my opinion.
I have reached the age where I find gags like this - and the massive cringe effect they inflict on young folks - fucking hilarious.

💀 I feel so old rn. all my computers and TVs have 3.5mm analog connected to a set of separate speakers. I use 2 pair of 3.5mm-connecting headphones every day (work, home). I’m nowhere near an audiophile or anything… none of it is even approaching high-end. I didn’t know people had abandoned non-bluetooth so much. guests always compliment how amazing my TV sounds though…

He’s got power windows and power locks and air conditioning, and he’s been so good to me and totally low-maintenance even after years of total neglect during my depression phase. I firmly believe he will be with me forever. I’ve been told he’s got a bit of “late 90s Ford Explorer”-face, but I think it’s handsome.
I souped him up myself with some nice fresh upper control arms and ball joints after he was getting a little squeaky in the suspension region, and I think he really liked it. I pat him on the steering wheel and call him a good truck every time he starts up perfectly (every time!!)
And by god, he’s a thousand times better than those Cybertrucks. I always laugh a bit when I see them (rarely, fortunately) and tell Truck I’m happy he’s so much better than those low-poly hunks of junk.
